As the party finishes destroying the stone summoning circle in the vanthampur vault...
"We have crippled this cult, and likely bought this city some time, but the threat isn't over. You need to take Thavius' Puzzle Box to Sylvira Savikas at Candlekeep, she was very concerned with the Vanthampur's dealings with Thavius Kreeg and how it ties in to Elturel's fate. She will know what to do. I am happy to accompany you to Candlekeep, if you'll have me. "
"You are correct. We waste valuable time while our friends are suffering in who knows where. Let us make haste to candlekeep. Bruno, Bartok, what was the name of the prisoner we freed? Let's stop by her place on our way out to ensure she made it out."
Bruno shoulders his pack and nods to Dartan.
"Her name is Satiir Thione-Hhune. She mentioned her family would reward us for her release. If nothing else, we should check to make sure she made it back in one piece."
"Very well. Let's get out of this cursed place. Who knows - the golem might hold off the fist until we can return with our friends."
Bartok looks thoughtfully at Dartan as he speaks about the friends that he's lost and a calm comes over him.
"You're right lad, I got distracted by the evil of this place. We've got more important things to do than break a few candlesticks. Let's find our knowledgeable lady and get to candledeep. I've not given up on em yet."
Before the party exits the Vanthampur Estate, they return to the Villa and spend the next 5 hours going room to room, taking as many valuables as they can muster
(treasure added).
After you finish taking your bounty, you return to the Mourning Wood tavern, to get some rest. Dartan has one final visit with Nectar and the rest of the party gets some well deserved sleep.
(LONG REST COMPLETED)
The next morning, the party heads to the residence of lady Satiir Thione-Hhune. The villa is a stately home, obviously they are a well to do family in Baludur's Gate. You knock at the front door.
After a few minutes you are greeted by a Butler. He informs you that Lady Satiir has requested no visitors, and despite you telling him about her invitation, he refuses you allow you to see her, and he sends you away empty handed.
The party purchases a cart and dartan summons his war steed to pull the cart. Once business is in order, the party heads out of Baldur's Gate and begins the 3 1/2 day journey to Candlekeep.
(Player Tabs Added for Cart Purchase)
As the Basilisk Gate opens, Flaming Fist soldiers hold back the tide of Elturgardian refugees. You cut a path through these wretched souls, whose wails intensify as the Basilisk Gate closes behind you. The dirt road cuts through the slums of the Outer City, past the walled neighborhood of Little Calimshan, to the great span of Wyrm's Crossing.
Falaster Fisk leads toy his residence in Little Calimshan. In addition to grabbing weapons, he also brings along an old book of Calishite recipes to trade for admittance into the great library of Candlekeep.
"the admittance to enter Candlekeep is a book the keep does not possess. It's always good to have a few obscure titles with you, to make sure we have something that interests the monks of the keep."
Once fisk finishes getting his gear ready and has his book, the party continues on out of the city.
you reach Wyrms Crossing
Two great bridges meet at a tall, rocky island that rises from the middle of the Chionthar River. Buildings and merchant stalls line the sides of both bridges, making it impossible to see the river from the narrow, congested roadway that cuts between those structures.
Wooden drawbridges connect the two bridges to a keep situated atop the island. The flags of Baldur's Gate and the Flaming Fist wave proudly above this fortress.
Items of interest you could purchase at the Merchant Stalls if you would like:
- Ring of Fireballs (3 charges) - 190 gp
- Crown of Truth - 250 gp (Wearer of the crown cannot lie)
- Potion of Ice Breath (3 charges lasts up to 1 minute)- 50 gp
there are crowds of people here - pickpockets, street urchins, and the like.
(Perception rolls made)
Bruno, having been warned in a vision, is able to spot would-be pick pocketers, and prevents the party from being robbed on numerous opportunities.
(+50 XP awarded to Bruno)
The Journey to candlekeep is slow, but the cart and horse make the walk much easier. Bruno spends hours pouring over notes, and spells while the cart bumps along. Bartok alternates from snoozing on the cart, to walking briskly along side, to keep his endurance up and to remain alert. Stopping occasinally to do some prospecting at key points along the way.
dartan rides the warhorse for most of the journey. Falaster Fisk strolls along side the cart most of the journey, but takes a few turns resting or napping on the cart to keep up his strength.
Over the past two days, the weather on the Coast Way has gradually worsened. Dark clouds release heavy rain until the road runs thick with mud, yet you trudge on, passing by friendly merchant caravans heading north.
On the morning of the third day, the rain subsides but the dark clouds remain. Ahead, you see a path branch from the wider road, heading to the sea. A raven perches solemnly on a leaning post bearing two signs that point like arms toward the west. One says "The Way of the Lion." The other says "Candlekeep."
The late afternoon sun shines through the clouds to illuminate the gray walls and pale spires of a timeworn fortress that stands majestically atop a rocky promontory overlooking the sea. The trail leads straight to it.
At the gatehouse, you are greeted by three monks in purple robes: a human, a shield dwarf, and a sun elf. Around their necks hang holy symbols of Deneir, god of writing, whose symbol is a lit candle above an open eye.
"Welcome to Candlekeep," says the elf in Common. "A gift is required from those seeking admittance. You must donate a book or scroll that isn't already in the library's archives. Please present your gift for inspection."
The monks smile at you as you stand at the gate of the magnificent fortress - weary from travel, and ready for a hot bath and a warm bed.

Welcome to Candlekeep
(Camp flashback, on the road to Candlekeep)
*On their way to Candlekeep*
Bruno gently pokes the campfire under the bubbling pot of fish stew.
“So, uh… Fisk? You mentioned we need a book to gain entrance to Candlekeep. I have a couple times I have grown tired of reading we could use. I noticed you packing up a cookbook of some sort on our way out from your home. Any chance you would be open to a trade?” Bruno slowly stirs the pot of fish stew to make sure it doesn’t burn. “There’s just something calming about cooking. For those few moments you’re working over the fire, it’s as if the rest of the world’s troubles don’t exist. I’ve really started to enjoy cooking.” Bruno smells the stew and uses mage hand to take it off the fire. “I’m still not great at it though. Getting better.”
Fisk takes a bite of the fish stew. And smiles,
“not bad, definitely not bad” he says as he takes a second bite. “I’ve learned that wizards make the best cooks! Must be that attention to detail from casting intricate spells”. He continued eating the stew then pulls out the cook book. “I’ll tell ya what, there’s no telling what books the monks will accept once we arrive, so if you’ve got a book they will accept, I’ll give you this one as a gift. “. He leans in close, “but don’t let the monks know we have multiple books or they will take all of them” He laughs as he finishes his stew and asks for seconds.
------ END FLASHBACK -----
Back at the gate of Candlekeep.
"Hail and well met, friend elf! I am Dartan Vilmon, my Dwarven friend is Bartok Stormweaver. That there is Bruno and the infamous Walter. Finally we have Falaster Fisk, a scholar of some renown. Mr Fisk, could you please provide the tome to our friend so that we may see the wonders of this fair city?"
Bartok strokes his beard as introductions are made. He glances up at Dartan as he's introduced and then nods to the trio at the gate. Bartok's eyes are then drawn to the keep itself. The grandness of the stonework and the far reaching spires draw his attention and a small smile reaches the corners of his mouth.
"I like it!" he says aside to Bruno, "Bit far from the mountain for all that stone, but I like it just the same."
Bruno interjects for a moment and pulls a book from his pack.
Apocalypto—a poetic prophecy
"Would this book suffice?" as he hands the book to the sun elf.
The elf takes the books with a fantastic smile and says with eagerness,
"Oh, please let me examine."
The other two monks gather around and as they inspect the book and flip through the pages, the holy symbols around their necks glow sofltly. They take 15 minutes to examine the book.
"This is acceptable, thank you for your donation. Welcome to Candlekeep. Please enjoy your stay. We do not allow any fighting in the city, so please keep your weapons sheathed at all times. We hope you find what you seek.". The elf bows.
The human then smiles and speaks,
"You are free to go where you please and stay as long as you wish. The outermost buildings are private dormitories for the monks and public quarters for visitors, you will also find all the amenities you require: bathhouses, clothiers, granaries, gardens, and so forth. Candlekeep even has a pub called the Hearth, that you should check out. If you are a seeker, please check in at the temple of Oghma."
The monks finish telling you about the attractions to the city, then open the gate, and allow you to pass into the keep.
The keep's enormous double gates, stand three times as tall as a man, formed its main entrance facing east. The doors are forged from a strange black metal, each of which features the sigil of Candlekeep, the image of castle with flames set atop each of its towers.
Immediately beyond the imposing front gates is the Court of Air, a vast cobblestone courtyard around which are many of Candlekeep's establishments and amenities that cater to visitors and "Seekers", (those who arrive with the purpose of finding knowledge and wisdom)
Places of interest in Candlekeep
- Erudite Outfitters & Clothiers, a tailor's and workshop that specializes in maintaining the robes and clothing of the keep's Avowed
- House of the Binder, a scholarly workhouse providing various scribing services
- Pillars of Pedagogy, the grouping of towers in which the Avowed research the requests brought to them by Seekers.
- Smithy & Stables, an establishment run by Khe'ril Hammerbind, that offers smithy and stabling services, even for more exotic flying mounts.
- Temple of Oghma, the keep's holy house of the Lord of Knowledge
- The Hearth, the keep's grand eating hall that allows its guests to mingle with one another. It contains shrines to Deneir, Gond and Milil. The warm and cozy establishment is the successor of the former Candlekeep Inn.
- House of Rest, a three-story simple bunk room that provids lodging for the keep's seekers.
- The Baths, a relatively humble bathhouse behind the House of Rest by the citadel's outer walls. It is only open to seekers and its access to volcanically-heated water pumps was brag-worthy.
- The Warmwet, the volcanically-heated bathhouse open exclusively to the monks of Candlekeep, located deep beneath the sea-facing end of the citadel
Landmarks in Candlekeep
- Court of Air, a cobblestone courtyard of Candlekeep is kept rather simple and kept unadorned. While it was once decorated by a small grove and a terraced rock garden, it now is a meeting place set between buildings that caters to the visiting Seekers.
- Exaltation, the tallest tower of the keep that houses the personal residences of the Avowed.
- Great Library, what is considered to be the largest and most comprehensive collection of scholarly writings, lore and knowledge in all of Faerûn. In addition to the great works and rare tomes found within, the Great Library holds a seemingly endless amount of paltry and insignificant documents such as recipes, inscribed song lyrics, journals of fairly unremarkable individuals and other such trivial writings. It holds a dozen towers, known as "necessariums", that offer seekers ample place to study and read in peace. Anyone may visit the Great Library, but you must not speak once inside.
- Vaults, the subterranean chambers that are off limits except to the monks.

Sylvira Savikas
“First things first lads” Bartok says as they make their way through the huge city gates. “I’m gettin some food in me belly!“ patting his sadly depleted waistline. “I hear there’s. Grand feast up at the hall that I plan ta visit. ya lads want to come with me!? First round of beers is on me!”
Bruno holds his breath and crosses his fingers as he passes through the arch into Candlekeep. Staring about his surroundings in wonder, he is jarred back to reality as Bartok mentions getting some food. Clapping his friend on the shoulder Bruno chuckles.
“When in a new town, always follow a dwarf. Their stomachs will tell you where you should eat. Lead on, my friend and let’s find some food and a hot bath.” Bruno follows Bartok and Dartan to dinner and engages Fisk in conversation between mouthfuls of food. “You never mentioned your connection with Candlekeep, Sylvia, and how you knew she would know about the box. What’s your story in all this?”
As they eat, Falaster replies,
"Sylvira and I have worked together for years. She is a renown expert on the Nine Hells and spends much of her time studying Avernus. She learned that Thavius Kreeg of Elturel has been dealing with Devils for years now, but she didn't have solid proof. Once Elturel fell, she felt like Thavius was somehow involved and likely is in league with Zariel the Archdevil. I learned that Thavius and the Vanthampurs had a lot of communication in the weeks leading up to the fall of Elturel, and she deduced that the Vanthampurs somehow were also involved. ",
Dartan accompanies Bartok to dinner where he feasts on Gorgon steak and eggs, with a side of trout and veggies.
Dartan finishes his steak and eggs and takes a big swig of ale that drips down his face and onto the plate. and spitting a little as he speaks,
"Fisk, make contact with Sylvia and have her meet us at first light, ... we shall take the evening to relax and restock."
"I think it would be best if we all go seek her out tomorrow, she is not one that you summon, she is very well known and respected in this keep. It would be wise to stay on her good side. She is in one of the tall spires. " Then nudging bruno and smiling, "Bruno, you're going to really enjoy this place, you may never want to leave. "
Fisk then addresses the rest of the party, "Now I should have mentioned this before, but in order to access certain areas of Candlekeep, you must register at the Temple of Oghma as a seeker. As long as you are sincere in your quest for knowledge, the Monks will give you your seeker sigil and you will have access to most of the keep. I would advise this be your first order of business in the morning"
As the evening gets later, and with the party's bellies full and satisfied,
Bruno takes the cart to the smithy and stables and secures a stall to store it. The cost is 5 SP per day.
Before retiring to the House of Rest, Dartan decides to try his hand at tailoring and creates a set of crude vestments for his companions. Thusly happy with his creations, he sits down for some relaxing fishing to clear his head. He knows Tyr is the God of Justice, and realizes that without knowledge, he cannot fully fulfil his duties as a paladin of Tyr. He says a prayer for guidance. Before turning in for the night, he stops by the house of the Binder to search for a scroll of gaseous form as instructed by Tyr. Unfortunately, the House of the Binder is closed at this hour, so Dartan decides to wait until morning.
The party then checks into the House of Rest, This three-story bunkhouse in the Court of Air provides seekers and visitors with a place to rest and store their gear. The rustic accommodations include both private rooms and common rooms. In addition to comfortable lodgings, the House of Rest offers guests peace and quiet.
It is 4 SP to stay in the common area and 2 gp for a private room.

Bruno casts Dispel Magic on Flennis's and Vaazs' spellbooks. The spell does not seem to have any effect on the lock on Flennis' book, nor does it have any effect on the Tendrils that lock Vaazs' book.
During the night, the party sleeps in their own private rooms. For the first time in weeks, you feel safe and secure. Candlekeep has a different atmosphere than Baldur's Gate. There are no screams in the night, yelling from bar fights, or sounds of things shattering or breaking in the distance.
You fall asleep listening to the rain....
The Dream....
During your sleep, however, you all are plagued with a dream. You see Reya, Hippee and Jack, but Jack looks different - like he is wearing someone elses face. You see them being tormented in Hell, begging for the suffering to stop. You hear chanting in the background with just one word, "Drakkar, Drakkar, Drakkar...." The chanting is coming from a sea of demons just outside your view. The dream is vivid, and you wake up in cold sweat.
You toss and turn all night and awaken groggy and unrested feeling a little sick.
LONG REST COMPLETE
The next morning comes and you take Fisk's suggestion and visit the Temple of Oghma.
All of you are made seekers, as the requirement is just a general desire for knowledge and wisdom.
Bruno spends a few hours looking for someone that can assist him with Flennis' spellbook and the true nature of the ring of wizardry.
He learns that there is a wizard named Balthazar Red that is in the Exaltation, that might be able to help divine the true nature of the ring of wizardry.
Bruno also learns of a gnome named Greeble Thistleblunder that is one of the avowed that spends time in the Pillars of Pedagogy, who would be interested in the spellbook.
Now that the party has been granted status of Seekers, they are able to visit the bathhouse. You reach a pleasant bathhouse, that is heated by a volcanic spring. You are greeted by a female monk, instructs you to remove all your clothing before entering the waters.
"We do not allow anything in the waters other than skin, so kindly remove your clothing before soaking in the healing waters. It is also a 5 SP donation for a 10 minute soak."
she gestures to a donation box.
After a nice bath and once you are clean and dry, you make your way toward the main keep, a towering edifice housing hundreds of monks and wizards, and thousands of books and scrolls.
As you meander through the keep, helpful monks stop to offer you directions.
Falaster Fisk already knows the way to Sylvira's laboratory, located in one of Candlekeep's spires.
The walls of this circular tower chamber are punctuated by arched windows that are currently shuttered. Bookcases filled with eldritch volumes stand between the windows, while tables are crowded with specimen jars, alchemical equipment, and other clutter. Engraved into the floor of the chamber is a large, nine-pointed star.
A middle-aged tiefling dressed in wizardly robes stands by one of the windows, caught in a fugue of intense contemplation. Perched on the corner of a table nearby is a spindly little demon with warty green skin, buggy eyes, thin black horns, and a whip-like tail.
"So good to see you again, my dear Sylvira.". Says fisk as you enter the laboratory.
The Tiefling woman looks up and smiles.
"Falaster! I can't tell you how pleased I am to see you," says the tiefling. "What have you brought me?"
Fisk looks over at the party, "I simply led them to you, they are the ones with the prize." He gestures to Bruno.

The Revelation
Bartok strolls along with his friends enjoying the smell of a clean beard for the first time in what seems like ages! The books catch his eye as he wanders through, and he chats happily about the possibility of finding a new book on healing, or even a new adventure fiction novel. He's always been a sucker for a good dark elf trilogy, or even a tale of a fuzzy footed adventurer and his brave dwarven friends! Entering Sylvira's laboratory bartok instantly goes rigid as he sees the demon perched on the table.
Bruno holds his breath and crosses his fingers as he enters the Main Keep. As he passes through the threshold, he almost forgets to start breathing again as he cranes his neck to stare at the towering stacks of books, scrolls, and untold knowledge. Following Fisk, he summons Walter to his shoulder and whispers to the rat in awe as he takes in his surroundings.
"You're right, Fisk. This place is everything I've ever imagined. It's ... incredible."
As they reach Sylvira's laboratory, Bruno pulls up short when Fisk addresses the Tiefling. He shuffles uncomfortably from foot to foot as Fisk gestures at Bruno. "Fisk never mentioned you were a half devil. I have to wonder if that lineage is why you have such in interest in Avernus and the Nine Hells."
He glances sideways at fisk uncertainly and clears his throat.
As Bruno starts to speak to her, Bartok glances at him from under his bushy eyebrows in surprise... Seeing him hand over the box to her, he begins to understand that there may not be an attack of betrayal after all. Keeping his ice blue eyes focused on the warty demon, BArtok slowly relaxes his posture, and crosses his plated arms in front of him prepared for whatever may happen.
Fisk smiles, "Didn't I mention her race? I guess maybe it slipped my mind, I don't see race, I only judge people on their character."
Dartan quickly interrupts, "Easy, friend. One cannot change their heritage. Its their actions in this life that define their character, not the deeds of their ancestors."
"*Ahem* You'll have to excuse me. We've had some ... unpleasant experiences with devils recently." says Bruno
"I get that a lot, but around here in Candlekeep, the wizards and monks are quite used to my kind. I assure you, I mean you no harm.", Sylvira grins as her familiar (the little demon) hops over toward her and she pets it's head.
Bruno quickly casts Mage Hand and uses the ghostly hand to reach into his bag of holding, producing the puzzle box. After a moment of hesitation, he commands the hand to lay it on the table before Sylvira, Bruno takes a step back and sighs heavily.
"We went through a lot to acquire this box from Thavius Kreeg. It cost the lives of almost half our party to get it."
Visions of last night's dream jump immediately to Bruno's mind and he shakes his head to clear his thoughts.
"We're told you may know what this is and how it works."
Sylvira's eyes widen as Bruno produces the infernal puzzle box, and she snatches it out of his mage hand and begins to study it.
"The wizard has the right of it. However, in the depths of my soul I know our compatriots are still alive. Is there a way to rescue them safely? We have fought foes from avernus and Zariel herself spoke to me... and tried to turn me. The Vanthampur family was in deep with this treachery. We may have saved Baldur's Gate for now, but we must ensure the fate Elturiel does not fall upon other cities."
"I've been suspicious of the High Overseer of Elturel for a long time. But no one wanted to hear my concerns, because Thavius Kreig was widely regarded as a hero who saved his city from an undead scourge, giving rise to the holy nation of Elturgard."
The tiefling turns toward the demon, "Jezebel, fetch me the fourth vial on the second shelf."
The little demon grabs a vial of dark liquid and hands it to Sylvira.
"Hailed as a savior, Thavius made all citizens of Elturel swear an oath called the Creed Resolute, which binds them to defend the nation of Elturgard. I met him years ago, and my instincts told me he was a charlatan. Afterward, I grew to suspect that he had cut a deal with one or more powerful devils, using the Creed Resolute to bind all Elturel to his dark deal....I wish to prove my theory, and I believe the evidence is locked inside the puzzle box."
She pours a small amount of the dark liquid into the mazelike troughs carved into the box's surface. She then tips the box so that the liquid flows in certain directions through the mazelike patterns—until the box's horn inlays pop loose and it breaks apart.
Inside the box is a stack of nine chain-linked plates, each three inches on a side, cast of dark iron, and stamped with Infernal runes. Anyone who understands Infernal can translate the runes. Sylvira reads them to herself, and her face grows solemn.
"It's as I suspected. The runes read: '
Be it known to all that I, Thavius Kreeg, High Overseer of Elturel, have sworn to my master, Zariel, lord of Avernus, to keep the agreements contained in this oath.
I hereby submit to Zariel in all matters and for all time. I will place Her above all creatures, living and dead. I will obey Her all my days and beyond with fear and servility.
I recognize the dispensation of the device called the Solar Insidiator, hereafter called the Companion. In my capacity as High Overseer of Elturel and its vassal territories, I acknowledge that all lands falling under the light of the Companion are forfeit to Zariel. All persons bound by oath to defend Elturel are also considered forfeit. I further recognize that this dispensation will last fifty years, after which the Companion will return whence it came, taking Elturel and its oath-bound defenders with it, if that is Zariel's wish.
All this is my everlasting pledge.'"
Sylvira looks at the party with sadness, "So I was correct, Thavius made a pact with Zariel, and doomed Elturel with the same pact. Poor souls".

Questions & Answers
Bruno’s eyes widen in surprise but he remains silent as Sylvira manages to open the puzzle box with ease. He tries not to let his face show his feelings after Sylvira manages to open the box so quickly when Bruno was unable to make heads or tails of it. Shifting from foot to foot, he grumbles in a low voice to Walter.
“Makes sense a half devil would know how to open an infernal device such as that.”
He stops his grumbling suddenly as she begins to read the contents of the contract. He listens attentively, chewing his lip while he listens. He pauses for several moments while considering it’s words. “From the wording on that contract, it sounds like Elturel was sent to the Nine Hells rather than destroyed outright. What use would Zariel have for a human city in hell? Can the city be saved or is it likely it’s citizens have already been consumed by the demons and devils that dwell there?”
"True, I believe that once the time on the contract expired, Zariel was 'legally' able to take the city and any souls within it, into Avernus where her devils would be swift to claim them and enlist them under her service. Sadly, Elturel and all of it's citizens are bound by contract - the citizens were caught in this by a technicality... truly evil of Zariel... but Archdevils don't have much concern for mortal souls. What use would she have? To serve as fodder in the blood war. She found a way to claim mass souls, using Thavius' greed and this contract. Any souls that were pulled into Avernus, are likely already lost, but that's not to say some could still be saved."
"This is unfortunate. He was in custody of the Flaming Fist when we left Baldur's Gate, but who knows what Zariel can do to help him escape. Do you know anything of this Insidiator? Or how long since this pact was created? Most importantly, how do we negate this infernal contract? "
"Zariel probably already has agents working to get Thavius released... although he probably is not very high on her list of concerns, I suspect Zariel is wanting to take Baldur's Gate as well For years I have monitored Devil activity in that city, and it has steadily increased. I believe that the Vantuampur family had been working with Thavius to broker a deal with Zariel for the souls of that city as well. I am sure you've slowed her down, and for that, her vengeance will be swift and resolute. The pact was created 50 years ago, when the companion first appeared and Thavius allegedly helped 'save' Elturel from the undead horde. But this contract proves all that was a ruse to doom the city under this infernal order. The contract cannot be negated - however, you may still be able to help Elturel. But to do so would mean traveling to Avernus and find a way to destroy the companion or broker a deal with one of Zariel's enemies there to sever the chains that bind the city to Avernus. Regardless of whether you can save Elturel or not, you may be able to prevent the same fate from befalling Baldur's gate.
Bartok eyes grow wide with horror the further Sylvira gets into the contract. When she reaches the part about taking Elturiel and it's oathbreakers with it, he chokes back a sob of despair for all the lives lost. He covers his face with his hands and whispers a prayer for all the unwilling souls.
"How....How could he doom an entire city to death. Oh the innocents! The children!" Bartok sobs again. "May he rot in the deepest, darkest parts of hell for what he's done." With a big sniff and a wipe of his eyes he says, "If I ever see him again.. I'll send him on his way!"
Bruno paces back and forth while continuing to mutter questions.
“What does Drakkar have to do with any of this? Is Drakkar involved somehow or am I simply dreaming visions of madness and horror again? Too many questions…too many questions…”
Sylvira's eyes perk up as Bruno mentions Drakkar.
"Drakkar? That's not a who, but a where." She looks at her Familiar, "Jezebel, get me the journal on the second shelf" pointing to a large leather book. The small winged demon grabs the book and brings it to the Tiefling. "Drakkar... Drakkar... ah, here it is. Drakkar is a sub-dimension of Avernus, recently formed by one of the Demon-lords that opposes Zariel. I discovered the dimension by accident, but what I believe it is, is a breeding pit where the Pit Lord Xanthian is hiding, and amassing an army to destroy Zariel. But how did you know about it? It was only recently that I even learned that it existed, and I haven't been able to confirm it's even real!"

Going to Avernus?
Beads of sweat begin forming on Bruno’s brow as Sylvira recognizes the name ‘Drakkar’. He starts pulling at his hair and pacing back and forth.
“Real…it’s real..it’s all real. Not mad! Not yet…but why?…”
Bruno trails off and look at Sylvira with manic eyes.
“Visions…visions in dreams showed our companions being tortured in Avernus. There was blood, and suffering…and over it all was chanted the name ‘Drakkar’. I confess up until now I wasn’t sure it wasn’t just another step on my road to madness.”
"Fisk said you might know how we can get to Avernus "safely". Is this true? Our comrades may still be alive! What do you know of this Lord Xanthian? How would we find him? Do you know how to traverse Avernus? Please! Tell us everything you know! We must do what we can to destroy Zariel and thwart her plans. "
Bruno takes several deep breaths to calm himself and seems to regain control until Dartan mentions going to Avernus.
“Intentionally go to the Nine Hells?! What for?! The half devil already said Elturel and it’s citizens are probably dead already. Even IF Jack, Reya, and Hippee managed to survive long enough to make it through the portal, chances are they’re also dead by now.” Bruno wheels to face the rest of the assembled group. “What good could we hope to do in Avernus? Isn’t the more present threat here and now against Baldur’s Gate?”
Bartok calms as the story continues, and an idea begins to grow in his mind.
“Bruno, I know ye think I’m crazy sometimes, but if we’ve got a chance to save those poor souls that were dammed by no fault of their own, and possibly save our new found friends in ol baldurs gate in one swing of me mace, i may be willing to go. Straight into the maw of hell if I have to. May be this is what the Baroness set me on this path for….why she blessed me mace.. and gave me friends to do it.“.
Bartok looks at Dartan and Bruno. “What if we crush this vipers head In ther own nest!” his blue eyes gleam with intensity. “What if we end This fer good!? tear up the contract and stomp it to dust.!“.
Sylvira listens as the three of you are asking questions and she finally raises her hand to speak,
"Gentlemen, gentlemen. Hold on one moment. One does not simply march into Avernus to thwart an archdevil. " Looking at Dartan. "I don't know if going to Avernus is a good idea. But going to the site of Elturel to search for survivors, and possibly rescue Duke Ulder Ravengard, that might be a possible mission." Sylvira looks at Bruno.
"You said you had a dream of Drakkar? this can't be a coincidence. I think you must have some telepathic connection to a demon or entity that is trying to get your attention, Bruno. "
Sylvira looks at Fisk. "Do you remember when you set out for Baldur's Gate to look for Thavius, I mentioned that you should ask around about a powerful and corrupt artifact that may be in the city? I think the item is a shield... but it was lost years ago, and the last person that knew of it's whereabouts was someone from the Hhune family."
"There was a shield in the Vanthampur Vault, but it was guarded by a stone golem. We didn't take anything from there.", recalls fisk.
Sylvira sighs,
"I am not sure if the shield will help you or not, but if it is the artifact I am thinking of, it shouldn't be left in a city of thousands. The corruption from that artifact could eventually spell doom for Baldur's gate. The shield should be taken back to Avernus, or at the very least brought here to me so I can seal it away"
Fisk ponders,
"The Flaming fist may already have it now, they were going to clear out the Vanthampur estate and take all the valuables to fund their cause"
Sylvira shakes her head, "Fools. General portyr doesn't realize the danger that shield poses. And Zodge is too much a fool to realize it"
Sylvira turns back to Dartan, "A wizard named Traxigor lives in a tower twenty miles from here. I've loaned him a spellbook or two, so he owes me a favor. I can have you delivered safely to his tower, and he can use a plane shift spell to take you straight to Elturel. Even more importantly, Traxigor is looking after an old friend of mine—someone with a history of battling devils in the Nine Hells. I think you'll enjoy her company very much. Her name is Lulu."
"Bruno, in order to get answers to the questions that torment you, you may have to push yourself into uncomfortable situations. I believe you have more courage than you know. When I was a younger mage, like you, I had similar reservations, but as I grew in wisdom, I realized that the powers that I wield made me much stronger than I knew. You have this power as well" Sylvira puts her hand on Brunos shoulder, "Trust yourself"

Counsel with Sylvira
Bruno seems to calm down somewhat at Sylvira’s hand on his shoulder and Dartan’s kind words. After looking down in silence for several seconds, he looks up and half frowns at the group.
“I will do what I can to help make sure this never happens again, but I don’t know if I can go to Avernus. For so long I’ve run from these visions and what I thought they might mean. If there is a demonic or devilish entity that’s been trying to contact me… I just don’t know at this point. I’m sorry.”
Dartan speaks softly to Bruno.
"My friend. We cannot run from our destiny. It seems as if your path is headed to Avernus and these foul beings whether you want it or not. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. permit it to pass over you and through you. And when it has gone past, turn your inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Your visions, Our discoveries at Baldur's Gate. It is no mistake that you were at Rok's when we were assigned our initial task. The path we walk is the path we are meant to be on. All of us. Together. How much have you done since we met that you did not think you could do? Let us take this path with you."
Bruno's eyes glaze as if he is in deep thought, although it's unclear which words he's pondering.
Bruno suddenly perks up as he realizes Sylvira mentioned Hrune.
“Hrune! She was the woman we saved in the Vanthampur dungeons. We went to see her afterwards but she refused to see us.” Bruno rubs his chin thoughtfully. “I wonder if she was down there looking for the shield too and was captured. Are we sure the Fist recovered the shield? Could Hrune have sent someone after it?”
Sylvira trails off in thought as Bruno asks about the shield,
"Possibly, Bruno. Possibly...the Vanthampurs... the shield... I wonder...."
"You may be right. Whatever good we CAN do, we must. Do you think Traxigor could perform this spell twice? Once to reclaim the shield and once more to the remains of Elturiel? And I have to agree, Bruno. I have said before there is more to you than you realize. How much have you overcome thus far when you had already lost hope? I wouldn't be standing here today if it wasn't for you and your magics. Think of how much of an impact you would have in this life if you only believed in yourself as we do. As I do." Dartan turns to Sylvia and nods. "We head out at first light. We must prepare ourselves for the trip ahead as we do not know what lies ahead....or below. Any further information you have on Drakkar, Xanthian, or anything we can expect on our journey? What of this Lulu? What has been her business in the Nine? If she has done battles there, perhaps she knows how to traverse the infernal passages."
Bruno meets Dartan’s gaze for a moment before he looks away again.
Bartok places a hand on bruno in support.
“I have been living in fear for so long. Running, constantly moving, researching, learning…sharpening my mind is the only way I have found to try and defeat my fears and … these visions.” Bruno shuffles uncomfortably. “There’s some wisdom in your words. The fears that I’m running from are they very thing that’s holding me back from being able to conquer them.” Bruno pauses and smiles at Dartan. “You are right that I’ve done more, seen more, and grown more in the past two weeks with you lot than I’ve ever done up to this point.” Bruno’s smile falters for a moment. “We’ve also seen much evil and suffered great losses in those two weeks. I will do what I can to make sure the losses were not in vain.”
Sylvira tells you more of what she knows about Drakkar, Xanthian and Lulu.
"I don't know much about Drakkar, only that I have discovered that it's a pocket dimension within Avernus. I would be very grateful for more information, as I believe the demon hordes that exists there might be sufficient to destroy Zariel once and for all! Of course, the threat that the Demons of Drakkar may pose, could be as bad or worse than the threat Zariel poses. the only thing, is that Zariel has a hatred for humanity and the realms of Faerun, where as Xanthian is likely only interested in Avernus for now. Traxigor can get use Plane Shift more than once - but it does consume a lot of resources, and I would be reluctant to ask that of him twice. My friend Lulu, is a Hollyphant, She is from Avernus and knows a lot about the nine hells. If you are intent on going to Avernus, and seeking a way to save Baldur's Gate and possibly even reverse the damage to Elturel, you will want to take her with you."
"A Hollyphant! Gods be praised! This is good news indeed. I have always wanted to meet one, but to fight alongside one is an honor indeed. Hear that Bartok?! A Hollyphant! Oh I do hope Walter doesn't frighten her."
Bartok nods, a regal smile forms on his face
"What are we waiting for!" he exclaims excitedly.
Bruno's ears perk up and his face brightens at the mention of the Hollyphant.
“A hollyphant! I would certainly like the opportunity to meet one of their kind…” Bruno looks to Sylvira and the group. “We will go see this Traxigor, but we’ve only just arrived in Candlekeep! There’s too much to do, too much to see!” Bruno reverently runs a hand along one of the nearby bookshelves. “I’ve waited so long to get here…Surely we can spend some time here first?”
Sylvira smiles at Bruno,
"you have all done much to slow the evil that has spread from Elturel, and you have delayed a similar fate to Baldur's Gate... for now. Spend a few days in Candlekeep, you have earned it. But the sooner you can get to Elturel, the sooner we can get more answers about what we are facing, and the better your chances of saving any souls that may still be there. When you are ready to go see Traxigor, seek me out again, and I will help you get to his tower."

The Downtime in Candlekeep
During your 4 day stay in Candlekeep:
BARTOKS TIME IN CANDLEKEEP:
Bartok spends much of his time at the smith, working on his craft - but he also enjoys his downtime at the inn, drinking ales by the fire, and listening to bards and sages as they tell tales. He has a peaceful and relaxing time, and even occasionally sits with Bruno and reads a book or two.
Bartok locates a smith and is able to secure a Plate Barbute helm, Plate Leggings and Plate Boots. (These items are in the shop and can be purchased at your convenience.)
DARTAN'S TIME IN CANDLEKEEP:
Dartan spends his time looking for new tailoring patterns and finding ways to infuse his tailoring with magic. He finds a local tailor that helps him with a few tips and tricks and before long, Dartan has some new things he adds to his patterns (New Recipes added to tailoring)
He learns that many of the seekers in Candlekeep are there for personal knowledge and growth. Many seekers are there for long term stays and have been in candlekeep many years. You find people from all walks of life, from clerics, and wizards to peasants and farmers. Many have tragic stories that led them here to better themselves.
Sylvira tells you that Traxigor is a bit of an absent minded wizard, and needs to be kept on track, as he usually has too much on his mind and plate to finish anything. Lulu, the Holyphant is a kind soul, but she lost most of her memories of her past.
"I believe that if Lulu returns to Avernus, she may regain her memories - so I confess, I do hope that you will take her back there, for her own sake.", Comments Sylvira.
Dartan is able to locate a Scroll of Gaseous Form as he inquires at different shops and speaks with various monks and clerics. (This is available to purchase in the shop)
BRUNO'S TIME IN CANDLEKEEP:
Bruno spends his time discussing various things with Sylvira and other scholars that he befriends in his days in Candlekeep. He enjoys a hot drink by the fire, surrounded by books (often forgetting to even eat, as he takes in the information like a sponge).
About Avernus
The Meteors: He learns that Avernus is a horrific place, with very unstable conditions.
Sylvira talks about An all consuming black cloud that is present that threatens to swallow the world. From deep within this cloud balls of ash and fire collect and fall to the ground creating a perpetual meteor storm. She warns you to always look up, as many visitors to Avernus are killed by these falling stars. (DM note to players: Meteor strikes are random, however with this information you have learned, you will be granted a save throw anytime you are targeted)
Dangerous Insects: She tells you a particular danger comes from A large swarm of blood sucking insects scour the lands of Avernus to feed. If you see this dark cloud heading your way, escape indoors or you will meet an horrific death.
Harmful Fungus: Spores of brown and green float in the air like dust. Any dead carcass instantly sprout vibrant colored mushrooms. A living creature that breathes the spores in will feel sleepy and sluggish. Be careful when you see fungus about or begin feeling sleepy - falling asleep in Avernus when out in the open, means you will never wake again... at least not as you.
The River Styx: You learn you must never under any circumstances touch any of the waters in Avernus, but especially the River Styx. Merely touching these waters can cause dementia, drive you mad, and have all your memories stripped away. The river Styx swell in size due to influx of souls or by powerful magica cast in the lower planes. During a flood, the river swells in double, or even triple in it's width unexpectedly. When traveling near the river, watch for rising floodwaters.
Soulburn Wildfire: While some inhabitants are completely immune to the burning of fire, they are not immune to the corrupting effects of Avernus wildfire. This blue flames seem to scream as it consumes everything in its path. If you see these blue flames, run, don't walk and seek shelter. Nothing can withstand the fires as they will strip your soul from your body.
About Zariel:
You don't learn much new about Zariel's Origins in your short time, other than what you already knew. But you do learn a few useful facts about some of the more prominent Devils and Demons that seek to dethrone her.
Bel, Arch Devil: Bel was an archdevil of the Nine Hells who acted as the Archduke of Avernus until he was supplanted by Zariel. He was a military genius who specialized in misdirection and led with careful tactics, in contrast to his successor's berserker rage. He was removed from power and now is the Archduke of Avernus. He has a deep hatred for Zariel and would do anything to see her overthrown.
Xanthian, Pit Lord: Little is known about the Pit Fiend Xanthian. Sylvira has only recently discovered that a sub-dimension of Avernus has been found, and a horde of demons resides there. It is not known if Zariel is aware of this hidden dimension that is literally on her doorstep. But the Demon that rules this area, is expected to be very powerful, and wants to see Zariel destroyed.
About the Sheild (Which also relates to Zariel's Enemies)
Gargauth, The Shield of the Hidden Lord: When you learn more from Sylvira about the Shield, she tells you:
"The shield is a symbol of good's triumph over evil. It may be beautiful but one can easily overlook the terrible force bound within it. Gargauth is, I believe, its name, though it calls itself the Hidden Lord. It was a pit fiend sent by Asmodeus to corrupt mortals on the Material Plane, and there it amassed such a following as to rival that of gods. In that way, Gargauth became a sort of demigod, and having worshipers increased its power exponentially... but was imprisoned in the shield by Zariel and banished from Avernus.
the shield has the power to corrupt everything around it. The Hhune family of Baldur's Gate has kept it for years now. Doubtless they'll want it back, but this shield should not be taken to any place where thousands of mortals reside. It needs to be locked away in an extradimensional space, away from corruptible souls."
Devils and demons in Avernus - Bruno learns about many devils and demons that reside in Avernus, enough to provide you some advantageous information when encountering them (Anytime you encounter a new devil or demon, you may make a History check and the DM will provide you some useful information based on the roll)
Most if not all demons and devils have resistance to non-magical weapons, cold, Fire and Poison. So avoid using these types of attacks. If you have access to radiant or holy fire, many demons are weak to these.
You successfully locate many scrolls - these have been placed in the shop for you to browse and purchase if desired.

What you learn about your Ring of Wizardry (Demon Posessed)
When you take the ring to get it Identified, You learn that the ring is not what it seems - but is a highly corrupted artifact from the nine hells, inhabited by a demon named Cenerus. It is appearing to look like a ring of Wizardry, and the ring will indeed let you cast any spell you desire, but using it's power will corrupt you and the curse that will follow is unknown. Using demon-possessed rings is considered highly dangerous as the Demon within it can and will do what it can to destroy you. Cenerus is bound by certain rules by his captor, and thus, the more powerful spell you choose to invoke, the more power the Demon will have over you. Merely wearing the ring could also be dangerous, as none of the mages know what will exactly happen once it's on your finger. they recommend you never put it on, or lock it away in an extradimensional space, or if possible, have it destroyed. You are unsuccessful in finding any mage in Candlekeep that will handle or attempt to destroy it.
Sylvira says she will keep the ring safe in Candlekeep for you if you don't want to risk taking it with you. She is also interested in studying it further, especially since Thurstwell Vanthampur was it's last owner.
You had to spend 20 gp getting answers about this ring (see your tab)
After the four days pass, the party gathers in the courtyard, preparing to go see Sylvira to send them to Traxigor.

Onward to Traxigor
** Previous, during the 4 day stay in Candlekeep **
Bruno tries to rub the weariness from his eyes as he pushes another dusty tome to the edge of the small desk Sylvira allowed him to use during their studies. Stretching his stiff joints, he stands and looks up at the Tiefling engaged in her own studies nearby.
“I … I can’t thank you enough for allowing me to study. Here, of all places.” Bruno gestures at the majestic stacks of bookshelves which surround them and sighs contently. “I, uh…also wanted to apologize for how…how I acted when we first met.” Bruno shuffles his feet nervously.
"Please, don't apologize Bruno. I can see that you are a kind soul at heart, I don't take offense at such things." Sylvira smiles warmly at Bruno as she works on a project.
“We had some significant run ins with devils recently and I haven’t had many actual interactions with Tieflings before. I only heard those stories you hear spoken in taverns.” Bruno clears his throat uncomfortably. “You know the ones. ‘Half devils can’t be trusted. Tainted blood…spawn of Asmodeus…the apple doesn’t fall far from the hellspawnt tree…some of them eat babies…some of them have succubus blood and are forced to bed someone new every fortnight to appease their base instincts…’”
Sylvira looks up from her project as Bruno speaks with a smirk on her face.
Bruno gestures dismissively and smiles weakly towards Sylvira.
“After spending some time with you, it certainly doesn’t feel like any of those are true but I’ve only gotten to be here for 3 days. I’d have liked to spend more time here.” Bruno looks wistfully around the place. “I must admit a large part of me fears I will never see this place again. I fear I am now be on a path from which there might be no return for me.” Bruno sighs heavily.
Sylvira sets down her beaker and book and looks sternly at Bruno, "Master Bruno, you are on a path of discovery. We wizards are not all equal. You have a spark within you that not all wizards possess. Ignite that spark, and turn it to a flame and you will unlock power you never thought possible."
Sylvira smiles again, and places a hand on Brunos shoulder.
"I believe you will return to see this place again. And when you return, you will not be the same." Sylvira turns and goes back to working on her project.
“In many ways I think I’ve always been on this path and am just now starting to realize where it’s been leading me this whole time. No matter how often I tried to run from it, or switch directions or change paths, I still find myself hurtling headlong towards that which I’ve always feared will consume me and everyone around me.” Bruno gestures slowly and summons his Mage Hand. Directing it to root through his bag of holding for a moment, he soon produces Amrik’s “Ring of Wizardry”. Hesitating for several moments, he finally directs the Mage Hand to slide the ring towards Sylvira. “I want you to keep this safe. I recently learned the true nature of this ring and don’t want it anywhere near me or where we’re going.” *Bruno proceeds to tell Sylvira about the history of the ring*
“Under no circumstances should anyone use this ring. It’s more dangerous than anything I’ve come across.” Bruno sighs heavily again and shakes his head. “Once I learned about the rings true nature, I had thoughts about selling it just to get rid of it as quickly as possible.” Bruno grins sheepishly. “Obviously I didn’t. I just couldn’t unleash this ring on some poor shopkeep. Who knows what could have happened? Still, I was tempted. There is a scroll of Augury I had my eyes on that I’m unable to afford.” Bruno pats his largely empty coin pouch dejectedly. “But that wasn’t the risk of this ring gaining control of someone. I want you to keep it safe. Keep it hidden. Destroy it if you can.”
"I will be happy to hold this ring for you Bruno. I am no stranger to Demon possessed rings. I will make sure it stays safe. You are wise not to use it. I am sure this ring corrupted Thurstwell Vanthampur more than we will know." She tucks the ring into a pocket in her vest.
Bruno gets up from the desk and starts to shoulder his belongings. “We’re leaving in the morning. I just wanted to say thank you again and…I hope to see you again.” Bruno turns to leave. “I don’t suppose you have any scrolls you don’t need? I have a feeling where our path is headed we’re going to need all the help we can get. If not, that’s fine. We’ll be fine. Everything’s fine. Uh, …yeah.” Bruno chuckles nervously and averts his eyes from Sylvira.
Sylvira smiles at Bruno "I am afraid I don't have a whole lot of scrolls that I don't need. However, I do have some scrolls that I believe you may need more than I." She grabs a box and pulls out three scrolls. "These will serve you well if you find yourself in Avernus."
* Bruno receives a Scroll of Tongues, Scroll of Elemental Weapon, and a Scroll of Fast Friends *
Sylvira winks and pats Bruno on the arm warmly.
The party regathers at the courtyard before preparing to head to Sylviras laboratory.
Bartok enters the courtyard with a pleased smile on his face, chin held high and turned to the side to show off his new steel cap. He also is stepping more loudly than is absolutely necessary, kicking up his feet as walks, and the sunlight glints at his new boots as they kick up from under his cloak. The color has returned to his cheeks after his near brush with starvation on the way to the city, and the twinkle is back in his eye after several good days of food and beer! Settled about his belt is his new found bag, and his mace and shield have a new coat of polish from his time in the blacksmith.
"Mornin Lads!" He bellows to Bruno and Dartan. "Ay feel like I could do wit a stroll to a tower! What do ye say we get this party movin!" Bartok plants his feet wide as he addresses them, and notices Bruno's look of studious thought. "What did ya find lad? Something to tickle that brain of yers? Baroness knows theres enough books here to keep ye up all night!" BArtok smiles at Bruno to show he's just pokin at his wise friend. "Or maybe a new recipe fer that fishy stew ye been makin!? I think it could do with a bit o cave mushrooms meself, but that's just cause it's the way me mother use to do it."
Bartok looks around at the courtyard. "Where be that Wagon we brought with us? Would be a good way to travel I think."
Seeing Bartok approach, Bruno summons Walter to his shoulder and does a mock double take. He laughs warmly and scratches Walter behind the ears.
“Well look at the shiny new duds on Master Bartok! Someone has been shopping!” Bruno looks about to see if Dartan or Fisk are approaching. Unable to see them in the immediate vicinity, he shoulders his pack and walks over to Bartok. “We should take a final stock of supplies and gather everyone before heading out.” Bruno starts walking towards the stables where the cart is being kept and looks back to Bartok, chuckling. “What happens if you have to pee in that thing?”
"sometimes you get wet" says Dartan as he appears from behind the wagon.
Bruno starts as Dartan steps from behind the wagon. He chuckles as he recognizes the voice and shakes his head.
"Seems like a good way to get rust in places I'd rather not."
Dartan laughs as he notices Bartok in his new armor.
"Master dwarf, the new armor makes you look taller I think. Cleaner for certain"
"Bruno, is that a SMILE I see on your face? I trust that means you had a good time?
Bruno takes a deep breath of Candlekeep air and exhales, smiling.
"This place ... it's everything I imagined. The knowledge contained here ... the scholars... So much opportunity and things to discover. I feel like I belong here. I only wish we could stay longer. Who knows? Maybe my path will lead me back here some day."
"While in the shops, I found a spell that can turn things into a gas! Tyr instructed me to purchase it. Do you think you can copy it into your spellbook or shall I hold on to it? "
Bruno tilts his head in thought at the mention of the scroll of Gaseous Form.
"I've read about such a spell before. I believe I understand the basics of how it works so I imagine I would be able to copy it into my spellbook."
Bruno pauses in thought.
"It's odd though that Tyr would direct you to acquire a scroll which you cannot use. What purpose would it serve?"
Bruno shrugs and shoulders his pack.
"You should hang on to the scroll for now. Tyr may have use for it, and you, later. If there's one thing I've learned from traveling with you two over the last two weeks it's that there are powers bigger than us pulling strings and directing our fate. Who know what their plans are?"
Bruno looks around for Fisk.
"Has anyone seen Fisk? Is he coming with us?"
Sylvira suddenly appears in the courtyard, and walks up to the party.
"Fisk has already left. He returned to Baldur's gate two days ago. I see you are all here on time, Very good. I have informed Traxigor that you would be arriving today. He is quite a pleasant fellow, but I warn you - he is quite scatterbrained. Oh and...you won't be able to bring your wagon...you'll be flying to his tower. It's 20 miles out to sea."
She pulls out a piece of tattered parchment and hands it to Bruno.
"IF you do go to Avernus, don't trust your eyes. It is said that Avernus cannot be mapped... so...This map might not be entirely reliable," warns Sylvira. "Its creator went mad making it. But it's at least got some places we know exist there, so if nothing else you can use it as an index of places."
*Received a map of Avernus *
Sylvira ushers you to a crescent-shaped landing platform with a stunning view of the sea. Waiting for you atop this platform are several griffons with saddles, their handlers standing nearby to help you. "The griffons have instructions to fly you to Traxigor's tower," says Sylvira. "Don't worry, it's safe!"
The griffons take flight and head out to sea, flying just below the clouds. Candlekeep looks no less majestic from the air but grows smaller as the griffons soar westward. Large, rocky islands pass below you, and beyond them lies the open sea. After a long journey, you see a windowless, doorless stone tower—which somehow floats in the sky ahead. The griffons pass through jagged holes riddling the tower's conical peak to land on the top floor below, which has a spiral staircase leading down.
The ocean breeze is cool, but relaxing and the salty air gives you a sense of calm You dismount the Griffons and peer over the side of the tower. You get a slight feeling of Vertigo as you realize the tower is hovering hundreds of feet above the water.
There is a spiral staircase leading down into the tower from this landing. There is also a box on the landing platform, that looks like it holds some saddles and leather stirrups for the Griffons.
You can only descend the stairs into the tower... or you can return to Candlekeep on the griffons.

Dartan eyes the griffons with both awe and apprehension. He thinks back of tales he heard as a young child of griffons and having to present yourself to them with proper respect and honor. Once he feels as if he got the griffon's blessing, he climbs atop the beast and grips the reins with a white-knuckled terror. The ocean spray, the height, and the wind on his face send Dartan into a spiral of anxiety and despair as he closes his eyes harder than he ever has before. Upon la ding, he umbles off the griffon onto the floor and violently shakes as he heaves his last meal everywhere. After a while, he sits up, brushes himself off and puts…
Bartok's eyes sparkle as he sees the platform and the griffons. This is the reason he left his small town, this is the reason he set his boots on the path to adventure, and as he climbs onto the platform and looks back at the keep, he is in awe of how far he's come already. Taking off his gloves, BArtok gently pats his Griffon and stares up at his "booster seat." "Really Bruno?.. Yer not that much taller than me! And I'm twice as wide! Hah!" Climbing into the saddle, the smile never leaves his face as the griffons muscles bunch and she launches herself off the platform. (It's a girl... cause it has eyelashes. Sera said …
Bruno carefully places the map of Avernus into his bag of holding with a concerned look at the mention of the mapmaker going mad. Walking up to the crescent platform, he stops at the edge in wonder as the griffons come into view. “Griffons!” Bruno dismisses Walter out of an abundance of caution, not knowing if the griffons would see the familiar as a potential snack. Walking carefully up to the nearest griffon, he slowly reaches a hand out and caresses a feathery wing. Bruno is so entranced by the creatures, it takes a moment for Sylvira’s words to register. “FLY to Traxigors tower? Twenty miles over the ocean? On a griffon?!” Bruno gulps and takes a hesitant step back. Seeing…
