Sixth Day: Retro Actions
Azalie on Sixthday: Walking after accepting the Chwinga Quest.
After the tension at the inn, once Dannika has left the inn and after the party has the Celebatory drink, Asalie decides to go for a late walk. It’s cold out, so she bundles up, checks for her dagger on her hip, and heads out.
“Mutt hasn’t a clue.” Azalie scuffles under her breath. She really likes this half elf and he reminds her of her friend so many years ago. “I hope he doesn’t think I’m jealous…” Azalie starts chuckling at the thought.
She continues to stroll through the back alleys. There are a few drunks passed out in the snow. Noticing a spot of yellow snow, Azalie decides it’s better to head to the inn and call it a night.
SeventhDay: Retro Actions:
Azalie on Seventhday: Responding to Sheriff Markham Southwell
Azalie Action Required: Post your reply to the Sherriff, if you accept his offer. (Will be handled as retro action)
Seventhday comes and she spends time gathering more provisions and listening to the chatter. She visits a few townsfolk looking for a job. “I am happy for the bustling economy here but it’s making it difficult to get work.”
Azalie heads for the lawman’s office. She’s always liked to deal some justice. After speaking to the sheriff she listens intently about the need for a night guard. The sheriff isn’t clear why, and she doesn’t care.
“Sheriff Southwell, I would be honored to guard the gate. I must press for at least a gold piece for the wage.” Azalie stands taller and turns to show her longbow, “I have enough weapons to make up for 2 men.” She waits for his answer.
Sheriff Markham Southwell eyes Azalie's longbow and her confident stance, a slight nod acknowledging her capabilities. After a moment of consideration, he responds firmly, and with respect.
"Given your skills and the weaponry you bring, it's a fair ask, Azalie. We value security here in Bryn Shander, and your help would indeed be worth a gold piece per shift. Consider it agreed," he says, extending his hand to seal the arrangement. "Welcome aboard. We're glad to have someone of your caliber watching over the gate."
Sheriff Markham Southwell takes a moment to detail the job expectations to Azalie, emphasizing the importance of punctuality for her shifts, which are scheduled from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM. He hands her a schedule for the upcoming week, marking her first shift on SecondDay, the 22nd. Azalie listens attentively, nodding in understanding, ready to start her new role as a gate guard.

Dorf and Azalie on Seventhday: Durin's Challenge
Azalie Action Required: Determine if you wish to bet on Dorf, and how much, and any other dialogue you wish to speak in this encounter (as retro action)
Dorf Action Required: Decide if you are going to accept his challenge, and how much you want to wager. You can make a perception roll to get an idea of what you think your chances are. You can also provide any dialogue you wish to say to respond to Durin.
Later on seventh day, Azalie stops by to check in on Dorf. She knows he’s pretty strong and loves a challenge. “What’s a better challenge then an arm wrestle.” She starts getting excited and the adrenaline pumps. As she enters the tavern right before Durin issues his challenge..
As Durin Stonefist steps forward, issuing his challenge to Dorf. Azalie watches the exchange intently, her keen ranger's eyes assessing Durin's formidable presence. As the challenge is laid out, Azalie leans in slightly, her voice confident,
Dorf looks Durin up and down noting the bulging muscles and fierce demeanor on his soon to be opponent. He figures even if he is beat it will be an epic fight, and he’d rather have a good match with a worthy foe than an easy win. He will wager 10 gold on this match.
“Durin I’ll gladly test my mettle with you, although I’m sure you’ll finish me quickly. I’m always up for some fun!” Dorf clears a space for Durin and prepares for the match.
Azalie loves a good manly match. Mono e mono, strength and tenacity are all that’s required. She starts to think about the bulging muscles, sweat beading on the skin, the tension, the coin! This place removes her will power. She knows if she doesn’t play right, then she will lose her coin. She wagers a bet for Dorf to win.
“2, uh 4, yes 4 gold on Dorf.” This will help with provisions.
With Azalie and Dorf's bets in, the two men sit down as the crowd gathers, preparing for the match.
As the crowd around them quiets in anticipation, Dorf and Durin lock eyes across the table, each trying to gauge the other`s intentions and strategies before the physical contest begins.
"Ready to test your strength against a true son of the mountain, lad?" he asks, his voice a rumble of friendly challenge. "May the best arm win, but just so you know, I don't go down easily."
Dorf`s arm steadily pushes against Durin`s with overwhelming force, quickly gaining the upper hand and driving Durin`s arm closer to the table, dominating this round of the contest. Durin, attempting to counter, struggles, clearly outmatched in this first round. He seems surprised by the halflings incredible strength.
As Dorf's arm pushes steadily towards victory, he grins broadly, the thrill of the contest lighting up his face.
"Didn't expect a halfling to pack this much punch, did you?" he teases.
Durin, gritting his teeth in effort yet unable to hide his astonishment, manages a gruff chuckle.
"By my beard, you're full of surprises, Dorf! But don't count me out just yet!"
Dorf maintains his powerful form, With a swift and decisive motion, Dorf overpowers Durin. Durin, feeling the pressure, activates his "Surge of Strength" ability, hoping the additional boost will help him match Dorf`s prowess. Despite this boost, bringing his roll closer to competitiveness, it`s not enough; Dorf`s momentum is unstoppable.
Dorf pushes his arm down to the table in a mere 10 seconds, clinching the match with a clean and undeniable victory.
As Dorf secures the final push, bringing Durin's arm to the table with a solid thump, he lets out a relieved breath and offers a broad, friendly grin.
"Well fought, Durin! That was a stout challenge; your strength is as legendary as they say."
Durin, rubbing his arm but smiling good-naturedly, nods in acknowledgment of Dorf's skill.
"You've bested me fair and square, Dorf. I underestimated you, and that was my downfall. But I'll be ready for a rematch someday, mark my words!"
Thorgar Ironbeard's laugh booms across the tavern, rich with delight as he watches Dorf's unexpected win. "Well, I'll be dwarved! Ne'er thought I’d see our Durin bested by a wee halfling! Dorf, lad, ye’ve got the heart o’ a mountain beast in ye!"
Azalie's excitement bursts forth uncontrollably as she jumps up, her cheers piercing the air.
"Yes! Yes! Dorf, you did it!" she screams, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks as she waves her arms wildly. "You're absolutely amazing! Who knew a halfling could topple a giant like that!"
Her voice cracks with sheer elation, her animated celebration drawing eyes from all around the tavern as she continues to shout praises for Dorf's incredible victory.
Still beaming with uncontainable excitement, Azalie rushes over to collect her winnings, her face glowing with triumph and delight.
"We did it! Look at this!" she exclaims to those nearby, holding up the coins with a victorious flourish.
Her laughter and cheers mingle with the clinking of the coins as she revels in the success of her bet, her spirit as high as her voice in celebration of Dorf's remarkable victory.
She glances back at Dorf as she leaves the Tavern, "Don't forget, Dorf, Hruna and the other dwarves will be here tomorrow!" She says out loud as she skips out the door.
Dorf conversation with Thorgar: Retro action
Dorf Action Optional: You may provide follow up conversation with Thorgar if you wish as retro actions.
After his epic match with Durin, Dorf offers to buy him and Thorgar an ale. He will praise Durin as a worthy foe and promise a rematch someday soon. He will then discuss with them his appreciation of dwarven mining and smithing skills mentioning that he also dabbles in these as hobbies, with nowhere near the skill of dwarves. He will ask if Thorgar wants to go mining with him sometime soon.
Thorgar, touched by the offer, chuckles warmly, his face creasing with a blend of nostalgia and regret.
"Ah, Dorf, me days of bravin' the wilds for ore are long past, but I thank ye for the invite," he responds, his voice longing for the old days of adventure. "But if ye're serious about wantin' to learn the craft, ye should head up to Kelvin's Cairn. Seek out me son, Brogar Ironhand. He's got the fire of his old da in him and more than enough spirit for the both of us. He'd be glad to take a swing at the rocks with ye and show ye a trick or two,"
Thorgar advises, suggesting a promising connection for Dorf in his pursuit of mining mastery. As the evening winds down, Dorf nods appreciatively, making a mental note to seek out Brogar, and shares his plans about meeting Hruna the following day, signaling a new day and new adventures ahead.

Mutt on Seventhday: Retro Actions with Alia
Mutt Action Required: Please provide your response to Alia, along with a charisma check,
As Alia approaches after his show, Mutt looks up with guarded surprise.
“Glad you liked what you heard. I’m not the best, but I enjoy it and it helps cover my bar tab.”
Alia smiles warmly, as she playfully responds, "Well, you might just be the best at making me want to hear more. And as for covering your bar tab, let's make sure you have more to sing about. How about that walk?"
Mutt hesitates for a moment as Alia asks to go for a walk. Finally deciding to go against his initial instinct (how likely is it this girl would be one of the ones looking for him, anyhow?), Mutt agrees to go for a walk.
“OK, sure. Stout and Ipa could use some fresh air too. Let’s meet by the Eastern gate tomorrow morning after breakfast.”
Mutt finishes putting his lute away and wishes Alia a good night.
Alia nods enthusiastically, her smile brightening even further. "Tomorrow morning by the Eastern gate sounds perfect. I'll look forward to it, Mutt. Have a good night, and give Stout and Ipa a pat for me,"
she says, as she tries to hide her genuine excitement for their upcoming time together. She watches as Mutt finishes with his lute, as she smiles and reluctantly departs.
Eightday: Retro Actions
Mutt on Eightday: Retro Actions with Alia
Mutt grabs a quick bite and a weak ale to start the day. On his way out, he passes by Dorf and Uptharr and mentions the walk with Alia and where they’re headed.
“I’m taking Stout and Ipa, but if we’re not back by supper, come find us.” Mutt adds with a chuckle.
Mutt heads to the Eastern gate and hides himself out of sight to watch Alia before he meets up with her. He waits to see if she came with or speaks with anyone or if anything looks suspicious.
Perception Roll: 23 - Watching Alia to see is she was followed or is setting a trap
From his hidden spot near the Eastern gate, Mutt watches carefully for any unusual behavior as he waits for Alia. He sees her arrive alone and on time, bundled up against the cold, waiting patiently by the gate. Relieved to find nothing suspicious, Mutt feels reassured about her intentions as he prepares to join her.
Charisma Check: 21 - Charisma roll for walk with Alia
Mutt rounds the corner, Stout and Ipa happily trotting beside him, as he spots Alia waiting by the Eastern gate. With a friendly grin, he apologizes for his delay,
"Sorry if you had to wait. I’m a bit of a slow starter some mornings."
Together, they set out from the gate, walking along the town's perimeter—a perfect balance between privacy and the security of nearby walls. As the dogs scamper ahead, fetching sticks Mutt throws, he turns to Alia with genuine curiosity.
“So, Alia…tell me about you? How did you come to be in Bryn Shander?” Mutt asks, keeping the tone light and interested.
Alia smiles, watching the dogs play as she begins,
"Well, I'm originally from Luskan. I moved here a few years ago for a change of scenery and a bit of peace. Bryn Shander seemed like the perfect place to start fresh."
As they continue their walk, Mutt hums a tune, filling any quiet moments with a light-hearted song that brings a chuckle from Alia. He steers the conversation towards her interests and experiences,
"What do you do here? And what are your plans or dreams for the future?"
Alia seems thoughtful, "I work at the local Apothecary, helping to prepare medicines. As for dreams, I hope to one day run my own shop, maybe even expand into herbal remedies. It's a small dream, but it's mine."
Curious about her knowledge of the area, Mutt probes further,
"What can you tell me about Bryn Shander or the surrounding towns? Any interesting gossip? And have you traveled much outside the Dale?"
Laughing, Alia shares, "This town is full of stories, especially with all the adventurers passing through. As for travel, I've visited Neverwinter once—it was overwhelming but beautiful."
As they make their way back towards the Eastern gate, Mutt smiles warmly at Alia, noting how Stout and Ipa seem to have taken a liking to her.
"Stout and Ipa seem to like you. I haven’t had them long, but they seem to be a good judge of character so far. Thanks for accompanying us this morning. Will I see you at the Northlook for my show tomorrow?"
Alia nods, her expression bright, "I wouldn't miss it for the world. Your music is something special, Mutt. See you there!", she leans in, and gives Mutt a light peck on the cheek, as she blushes and quickly heads off down the town streets and out of sight.
Azalie on Eightday: Retro Actions at the Bathhouse
Azalie Action Optional: Determine if you want to converse with any of the bathers. (Will be handled by Retro actions)
After disrobing, Azalie settles in for a soak.
“Ahhhh”
She sinks in, focusing on the words of the ones around her.
She hears for a wizard that is dangerous. Hunting adventurers, very strong, uses magic. That’s not too off since magic was banned years ago. She thinks about how stupid people must be to think wizards wouldn’t fight back. They were born with powers, how do you stop that?
Azalie listens to the patrons and decides to ask some questions. They are adventurers, and knowledge is power.
“A wizard you say? He’s seems violent. Can you tell me more? Have you heard what spells he casts? Does he travel alone? Where was he last sighted? Do you think he’s dangerous to everyone? How can I find out more?”
Azalie’s questions continue. She has gathered some attention.
Responses by various bathers in the bath house.
"A wizard you say? He seems violent. Can you tell me more?"
Response: "Yes, he's a Red Wizard of Thay, known for dark magic and dangerous ambitions. He's been caught in Easthaven after causing a lot of trouble."
"Have you heard what spells he casts?"
Response: "People say he dabbles in necromancy and other forbidden arts. It’s said his magic is powerful and terrifying."
"Does he travel alone?"
Response: "He was mostly seen alone, but such wizards often have followers or summoned creatures lurking in the shadows."
"Where was he last sighted?"
Response: "He was captured in Easthaven, but before that, he caused disturbances across several towns around Icewind Dale."
"Do you think he’s dangerous to everyone?"
Response: "Absolutely, a wizard of his sort doesn't pick and choose. His actions could have consequences for anyone who crosses his path."
"How can I find out more?"
Response: "You might want to head to Easthaven. They'll be handling his punishment, and you can probably learn more from the guards or local authorities there."
Eightday with Hruna and Dwarves:
All Party Action Option: you may continue the dialogue with Hruna, Korux and Storn
Following his healing at the temple, Fizz felt purified, clean, and HUNGRY! Getting back to the inn, Fizz was elbows deep into his 3rd bowl of Dwarven Stew when Hruna and her crew walked in. Fizz responded to the inspired dwarf's excitement with a muffled "Oi, Oi" around a potato, and a a happy, but stew filled "Thank you" when he received the Bloodstone as payment.
After the party reunites with Hruna and her group Dorf pulls Oobok’s locket out and hands it to Hruna.
“We recovered this in the fight with the goblins that had your sled. I hope you will be able to give this to Oobok’s family. "
Dorf senses this isn’t the time to express his interest, so he gently folds her hand over the locket and backs away. Unfortunately he doesn’t notice a pile of acorns and toadstools that Fizzbum is playing some sort of game with and trips on falls flat on his backside. Wincing more with embarrassment than pain he chuckles and decides the best move is to just join Fizz in whatever it is he is doing.
Hruna's eyes soften as Dorf hands her Oobok’s locket, a tangible reminder of the fallen dwarf whose memory now finds a measure of closure in this small gesture.
"Thank you, Dorf," she murmurs, her voice thick with emotion as she clutches the locket tightly. "Oobok was a good friend and a brave soul. This will mean the world to his family. You've done a kind deed bringing this back."
As Dorf trips and falls, Hruna’s concern flickers across her face, but seeing him chuckle and move to join Fizzbum, her expression eases into a smile.
"Take care, Dorf," she calls out, amusement mingling with gratitude in her tone. "And thank you again, for everything."

After a short visit with the Dwarves, Hruna, Storn and Korux take their leave, and return to Kelvin's Comfort Inn.
Finally patting his overly round belly, and leaning back in his chair by the fire, Fizz responded to his friends general questions about their next mission, and with a hiccup, wished Mr. Mutt success on his performance the next day.
A sleepy smile on his face, Fizz stumbled up to their room at the end of the night and promptly fell asleep on his mat, new Mukluks and all. Early on that night his dreams were haunted by the memory of an icy claw reaching deep into his heart and stabbing it with deathly cold, but as the night wore on, his dreams became more pleasant and his companions could tell that he was finally on his road to wellness.

NinthDay
Fizzbum & Azalie on Ninthday:
Fizz slept in the next morning, but arose with an significant appetite in his belly and a renewed vitality in his heart. Eating a quick but hearty breakfast at the Inn, Fizz headed out to see if he could learn from the hills and valleys around the town, breaking in his new Mukluks and meeting new animals as he explored. Once he got away from town, he transformed into the young Elk that he knew traveled so well in the snow, and covered a larger area looking for any sign of the Chwingas.
On nineth day, Azalie notices that Fizz isn't in town. She starts looking for him. She has a gift for him.
"Hmm? He didn't mention about needing to be somewhere." Azalie scratches her head, trying to determine where Fizz has gone off too. "I'll go ask the others. Maybe one of them has seen him."
Azalie runs off to see Dorf, but she can't seem to locate him. She runs over to the Shrine of Pelor, but no Uptharr. She dashes back to the Northlook,
"Mutt, have to seen or heard from Fizz?"
Mutt seems busy, getting ready for his adoring fans, Azalie rolls her eyes and secretly can't wait to see his performance. He waves his hands and mumbles something about dragons? Azalie looks at him questionably, he seems distracted.
Oh well, she thinks and shrugs. Azalie starts walking back out of the Northlook,
"Guess I won't find Fizz." Just then she notices small, and wide footprints in the snow. She rolls her eyes at herself, "You can just track him, you are a ranger."
She quickly runs back to her room and grabs her pack. Then darts past Mutt,
"I'LL BE BACK FOR YOUR PERFORMANCE."
yelling as she hops on one foot to make it around the corner. She runs quickly to the stables and finds her feathered friend, Vinny. "Let's get going, we have a quick gnome to catch up to." She mounts her steed, leans forward with excitement and squeezes her legs tight, "Like the wind my friend." Her smile and excitement can be seen by all. She is itching for some exercise.
Fizzbum's Search for Chwingas:
Investigation Roll: 20 - Searching for Chwingas
Fizzbum's search for chwingas in the crisp, icy woods of Icewind Dale is meticulous and hopeful. He scans the environment with a keen eye, looking for any sign of the elusive elemental spirits known to inhabit the area. Despite his thoroughness, he finds only subtle hints of their presence: a small swirl of snow that doesn't quite fit the wind's pattern, a peculiarly arranged circle of tiny stones, and faint, whimsical tracks that vanish as quickly as they appear. Each clue tantalizes and frustrates, pointing to a recent visitation but yielding no direct sighting of a chwinga.
Meanwhile, Azalie after tracking down Fizz keeps an ever watchful and protective eye on him as she shadows Fizzbum from a distance. She sees his determined efforts and his slight disappointment. Just as Fizzbum transforms back to his regular gnome form, showing signs of wrapping up his search, Azalie seizes the moment to give Fizzbum the gift she made for him.
Azalie Action Required: if you wish to handle this interaction with Fizz, it can be done in either Character Chat, or as a retro action post, or you can just tell the player about it in out of character chat.
Mutt's Ninthday Performance: Skill Challenge
As the clock nears 8:00 pm, the atmosphere inside the Northlook Inn grows anticipation. The rustic tavern, usually failry quiet, and a cozy haven from the biting cold of Bryn Shander, buzzes with an unusual vibrancy tonight. Lanterns cast warm, flickering light across the wooden tables, now pushed to the sides to create space in front of the stage that has been set up for the evening's entertainment. Patrons, wrapped in thick furs, gather around, their conversations a lively blend of excitement and curiosity about Mutt’s upcoming performance. Conversations around tables are a mix of talk of the weather, to discussions about the songs Mutt has played and what their favorites are.
Scramsax, the proprietor of the Northlook, claps Mutt on the back as he approaches him at the stage.
"Ready to light up the night, Mutt?" he booms, his voice echoing over the murmur of the crowd. "The place is packed, and they're all here for you. Give 'em a show that’ll warm their hearts against the frost outside!"
Among the audience are key figures: the entire adventuring party (Dorf, Fizzbum, Uptharr, and Azalie), eagerly awaiting their companion's performance; Dannika, the elf who tasked them with the Chwinga quest, her eyes occasionally darting towards Mutt with a mix of professional respect and personal interest; and Alia, whose admiration for Mutt is evident in her eager, slightly nervous posture. There is a subtle tension between Dannika and Alia, both vying for Mutt’s attention.
Dannika approaches Mutt with a smile as he makes his final preparations, her eyes revealing both admiration and a hint of something more personal.
"Mutt, I'm really looking forward to hearing you play tonight," she begins, her voice smooth and encouraging. "Your music brings a bit of magic to Bryn Shander, something we all need more of. Best of luck out there, though I doubt you'll need it."
Before Mutt can fully respond, Alia, with an enthusiastic bounce in her step, comes up to him, her eyes bright with excitement.
"Mutt, I just know tonight's going to be amazing! I can't wait to hear your new songs," she gushes, slightly edging closer to ensure her presence is felt. "And remember, if you get nervous, just look for me in the crowd—I'll be the one cheering the loudest!" she says playfully, yet clearly aimed at gaining Mutt's attention.
Skill Challenge: Performing at the Northlook:
Note: You can cast enhance ability before the show for one of your abilitiy scores. You need to declare that before the show.
Mutt, standing backstage, takes a deep breath as he tunes his lute. The challenge ahead is not just about playing notes but weaving magic through his music to captivate the audience. As the performer, Mutt will face a series of skill checks, each representing a part of his performance and how well he connects with his audience. Choose one of the following Skill rolls to start your performance.
Performance Check (Charisma): To start, Mutt needs to capture the audience's attention and set the mood. A successful check means he expertly draws them into his musical world. (Make this check first)
Insight Check (Wisdom): Reading the room is crucial. This check will determine if Mutt can adjust his set dynamically, perhaps changing his song choice to better fit the mood of his audience. (Make this check second)
Persuasion Check (Charisma): Mutt will attempt to engage the audience, maybe encouraging them to sing along or react to his songs, enhancing the communal experience of his music. (Make this check Third)
Each success will build momentum, while failures might require quick thinking and adjustments. This challenge will unfold as the rolls are made and party members will also need to declare how they are acting and what they are doing during the show.

Mutts Performance at the Northlook
Fizz gets ready for the show in his room he is sharing with Azalie and Dorf. He's brushed up his leather armor, put on his favorite new necklace, oiled his staff, and even brushed his hair for Mutt's special day. Though he was cleaned up and shiny, he still seemed to have a bit of a reindeer musk aroma about him if you got very close.
Dorf cleans up as best he can before heading downstairs for Mutt’s performance.
Azalie makes it back to the Inn, right before Mutt takes the stage. She darts upstairs and quickly cleans up and changes into her party dress.
“There’s nothing more satisfying then a sharp look.”
Azalie LOVES to dress up. Being a ranger elf, she barely gets the chance. She’s been working on this outfit for months.
“I might look like a princess but I’m not one.” she spins on the mirror, making sure every detail is perfect. “Oh! Almost forgot.” She puts on her thigh dagger sheath. “Can’t be caught with no weapons.” She puts her Jade dagger in the sheath.
“Well, I hope I look ok.” She suddenly feels anxious, as fast as it appeared, it was gone. “Maybe I am jealous.” She looks at herself very seriously and then bursts out into laughter.
She lights up her smoking pipe and takes several long pulls and exhales several cloudy puffs of white smoke....
As Azalie turns to leave her room, excitement bubbling within her, she almost bumps into Fizz who's just stepping out of the room at the same time. Noticing her elegant attire, he smiles broadly and nods towards the stairs,
"I'm coming with you. Wouldn’t miss Mutt's big show for all the potatoes in the Dale."
Together, they make their way down the stairs, Azalie gracefully tiptoeing while Fizz keeps pace beside her.
"You look ready to turn heads tonight, Azalie," Fizz comments, his eyes twinkling with mischief, "Planning to outshine the star of the evening?"
Azalie laughs, her steps light on the stairwell.
"Oh, I wouldn't dare steal Mutt's spotlight. But maybe just borrow it for a dance or two," she replies playfully.
They reach the bottom of the stairs and step into the bustling taproom, the energy of the place drawing them in as they join the crowd gathering for the performance.
The Northlook Taproom
Scramsax surveys the bustling Northlook Inn with a look of satisfaction. The crowd is much larger than usual for a Ninthday live show, filling the tavern with a lively buzz of anticipation. Approaching Mutt, who is making final preparations for his performance, Scramsax claps him on the shoulder, a broad smile spreading across his face.
"You've attracted quite a following in a very short time, Mutt," Scramsax remarks, "It’s not every day we see this kind of turnout on a Ninthday. You're really making a mark here." His eyes gleam with approval, clearly pleased with the draw that Mutt has become for the inn, boosting spirits as well as business.
Mutt breaks out into a beaming smile as he sees the crowd and so many familiar faces at the Northlook. As he makes his way from the bar to the performing platform, he stops to engage warmly with his friends. He claps Uptharr on the back, ruffles Fizzbum’s unwieldy hair, and makes a comedic show of pretending his hand was hurt after grasping hands with Dorf. Spotting Azalie making her way through the crowd, he quickly moves over to greet her, placing a friendly hand on her shoulder.
Just as Azalie begins to express her excitement,
"Mutt! This is going to be so awesome! I’m glad you waited until 9th day…” she suddenly catches sight of Dannika and Alia approaching. Her words trail off as she notices the attention they are garnering from Mutt. she adds, “Oh, uh, sorry. I didn’t mean to interrupt.” Azalie wants to give Mutt a gift, to show her friendship. “I’ll talk to you after the show.”
Just as Azalie is talking to Mutt, Dannika jumps in and greets him,
"Mutt, I'm really looking forward to hearing you play tonight," she begins, her voice smooth and encouraging.
"Thank you, Dannika, your words mean a lot," Mutt manages to say, his voice slightly less steady than usual. He turns to Alia, a nervous smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "And Alia, that's... really encouraging, thank you. I'll definitely look for you out there," he adds.
his gaze flicking briefly towards Azalie, seeking a familiar grounding presence. "It's just, you know, hoping all these new pieces hit the right note with everyone."
Mutt, noticing the tension, whispers something into Azalie's ear, “Sorry about this in advance.” he says right after he greets Dannika and Alia,
Azalie stands straight at attention when Mutt whispers in her ear. He doesn't know she has smoked a quarter of Frosty Toby. She's not even sure what he said.
"Huh, Mutt?" Azalie says, while attempting to follow him to where he's headed.
"Did you see my dress? I made it for the performance." she spins around and then notices the other girls. "Hi Dannika, Hello... I'm sorry, who are you?"
she has seen this person but doesn't know her name. "and I don't need to either" she says out loud. Azalie isn't worried about these women, she's just here for the entertainment.
thanking them for coming. Gesturing to a small table near the stage, Mutt raises his voice to be heard over the bar's din,
“I saved you guys a table!” He guides the women, Dorf, Uptharr and Fizz over, tactfully seating Azalie between Dannika and Alia, hoping to ease any awkwardness.
Azalie follows Mutt's lead and sits between the two girls. She smiles with great intent, looking back and forth at them both.
"Aren't you excited!" she says while getting herself settled. "I'm not promising to stay in my seat. I'm a shaker!" Azalie is super pumped, and also enjoying being around a table with her friends.
She looks over at Fizz, Dorf, and Uptharr. "I couldn't imagine spending my time with anyone else." Azalie feels like this is going to be a good night. She's planning on giving Mutt his gift tonight.
Dannika, catching the infectious enthusiasm, smiles warmly at Azalie,
"It's impossible not to be excited with you around, Azalie. I'm looking forward to seeing those dance moves!", says Dannika with a forced smile.
Meanwhile, Alia nods in agreement, with a tinge of jealousy in her eyes, "Well, I'm ready to see you shake then! This is going to be a night to remember."
“First round of drinks is on me! I hope you all enjoy!”, Mutt says as he slaps the table and then spins on his heel and faces the stage.
Dorf smiles and gladly accepts the ale while rolling his eyes at the women as they glare at each other.
As Mutt declares that the first round of drinks is on him and spins to face the stage, reactions around the table vary, as the group enjoys the festivities.
Azalie, having indulged in some Frosty Toby earlier, gently waves off the offer for a drink with a smile.
"I'll pass on the drink, Mutt, but thank you. I'm all set with my own kind of chill tonight," as she nods appreciatively
Dannika, poised and serene as ever, expresses her gratitude with a nod and a soft smile. "Thank you, Mutt. It’s a pleasure to be here and see you perform," she says
Dorf, enthusiastic and boisterous, slaps the table heartily, his face lighting up with anticipation. "Ale on Mutt! That’s what I’m talking about!" he bellows
Alia, visibly excited, claps her hands in delight. "Oh, what a treat! Thanks, Mutt! This is going to be a fantastic night," all the while, glaring at Azalie and Dannika. Dorf, rolls his eyes again at the drama.
The rest of the group, including Fizzbum and Uptharr, nod and murmur their thanks, as they settle in, ready to enjoy the music and company.
Mutt bounds up to the stage with a nervous energy and gestures quickly, casting Minor Illusion. Soon the sound of Mutt’s pan flute playing a melody he had been workshopping the past few days fills the room at a raised volume to let folks know the show was about to begin. Once the noise of the common room dies down, Mutt smiles and addresses the crowd.
“Before I begin, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all. Not just for coming to the show, but let’s be honest, I’d be heartbroken if nobody showed up so definitely thank you for that.” Mutt chuckles.
The crowd in the taproom chuckle along with Mutt, enjoying his banter.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone I’ve met and become friends with over the past few weeks. I came up north knowing no one and not really having an idea as to where I was going. One frost giant, several yetis, an ice elemental, several goblins, and an ice wraith later…” Mutt counts all these encounters off on his fingers and laughs. “By the gods, it’s been an exciting few weeks! After all that, I have made several good friends. Fizz, Dorf, Uptharr, and Azalie…thank you. I wouldn’t be here without you.”
Mutt gestures and casts Minor Illusion to project an image of each of them as he says their names. The images have been purposefully modified to make them look stronger, more handsome, and over the top heroic than their real life counterparts. The crowd responds warmly, with several patrons raising their glasses high and toasting in unison, "Here, here!"
As Mutt sincerely thanks his friends and the crowd, the room responds with a warm, appreciative buzz. Cheers and applause break out from the audience, showing their excitement as illusionary images of Fizz and Dorf, Uptharr, and Azalie appear, each heroically enhanced and shimmering above the stage.
At the party's table, the reactions are a mix of amusement and modesty. Fizz grins widely, clearly enjoying the fantastical version of himself, while Dorf lets out a roaring laugh, raising his mug in salute to the illusion and then to Mutt.
"That's more like it! Though I think you've got my good side there," he jokes, his voice loud enough to be heard over the clatter of the tavern.
Uptharr gives a humble nod, his eyes twinkling with gratitude and a touch of embarrassment at the grand portrayal.
Azalie, meanwhile, blushes slightly at her heroic image, and laughing, "Well, aren't we a fierce looking bunch? Thanks for that, Mutt. It’s not every day one gets to see themselves as a hero of legend."
Dannika and Alia, seated beside Azalie, share a smile, both impressed by Mutt's creative expression of gratitude.
Mutt Continues,
“To the others I’ve had the fortune to meet: Scramsax, Dannika, Alia, the dwarves of the Battlehammer clan… It’s folks like you that make it possible to not just survive but actually find some sliver of warmth up here. You all know living up here is not easy. It’s only by connecting with the people around us that makes it actually all worth doing.”
Mutt clears his throat and casts Minor Illusion to project an image of the frost giant’s cave behind him.
The tavern hushes with anticipation. He clears his throat and gestures subtly, invoking a spell that causes an image of a frost giant's cave to appear dramatically behind him. The chilling illusion draws gasps and murmurs from the audience, setting a thrilling stage.
“Now I want you all to come together and join me on a bit of a journey. Forget the world outside these walls for a bit and enjoy!”
As he starts strumming his lute, a sense of excitement sweeps through the crowd.
Performance Roll: 19
Mutt dives into his new original song about defeating the frost giant and his yetis. His voice, clear and strong, fills the room, and the audience is visibly moved by the vivid storytelling woven through his lyrics. A couple of patrons near the front nod in rhythm, completely caught up in the adventure unfolding in song.
Mutt sings a couple more songs about the Howlbears’ adventures:
As Mutt transitions to the next part of his set, he sings about their encounter with the ice elemental. With another flick of his wrist, Minor Illusion brings to life a beautiful and frightening ice elemental, shimmering ethereally beside him.
"Look at how it dances among us, yet chills the bone," Mutt sings, his eyes gleaming with the magic of his performance.
Azalie is out of her seat over and over. Tears well in her eyes thinking about all their amazing adventures, so far.
The crowd watches in awe, the image of the elemental reflecting in their wide eyes, a collective shiver running through them.
Mutt pauses after the last song about the Howlbears and takes a pull from a tankard of ale sitting nearby on a stool. He proceeds to start in on another song about a single, strikingly beautiful, flower that despite the freezing winds, perpetual twilight, and harsh conditions, defies all odds to bloom at the peak of a frozen mountain where it is ultimately noticed and blessed to bloom eternally by the gods. During the song, he casts Minor Illusion and depicts the beautiful frozen flower on the party’s table in the middle of Azalie, Dannika and Alia. He proceeds to cast the same image on other tables within range until he finishes the song.
All of a sudden Mutt conjures an image of a beautiful rose. Azalie stares at it, suddenly she leans in and takes a deep "SNIFF!" She seems a little puzzled as the only smell she's getting is ale, and maybe last nights stew. She sees him cast the illusion on the other tables,
Azalie leans closer to Dannika, "I wouldn't recommend they smell that rose. PU." Azalie laughs at her own joke. "Hahaha, I crack myself up."
Insight check: 12 - Trying to read the room
"Diggy Diggy Hole"
Deciding to lighten the mood a bit and get the crowd involved, Mutt addresses the audience.
The energy in the Northlook Inn reaches a fever pitch as Mutt announces the next song with a grin, his voice booming over the newly conjured sound of thunderous drums.
"Right! This one goes out to all the dwarves and folks that toil in the mines and forges of Bryn Shander! This is ‘Diggy Diggy Hole’. Sing along if you know it!” His persuasive call sweeps through the crowd like a rallying cry, and the patrons respond with enthusiastic cheers.
As the iconic chords of "Diggy Diggy Hole" fill the room, the tavern transforms into a hall of revelry. Several of the dwarves that frequent Kelvin's Comfort are in the crowd, including Thorgar Ironbeard and Durin Stonefist. They shout and bang their mugs on their tables as they get into the spirit of the song.
Fizz, caught up in the moment, pushes his chair back with a clatter and plants his staff firmly on the ground. He begins a wild, spirited dance, hopping and spinning with no rhyme or reason. His movements, though lacking any clear pattern, are filled with pure joy, drawing glances from around the room.
Beside him, Azalie can't contain her excitement. It's her favorite song, and she bursts into song along with Mutt, her voice loud and clear. She joins Fizz in his dance around the table, adding her own flourishes, her laughter mixing with the lyrics as she moves with a grace that contrasts Fizz’s playful chaos.
At the same table, Dorf's enthusiasm rises high. He pounds the tabletop with both fists, keeping time with the booming drums, his excitement begins to encourage others to join in the revelry.
Across the table, Dannika and Alia find themselves swept up in the excitement. Dannika, usually more reserved, claps her hands and sways in her seat, her smile wide as she watches the dancers. Alia, not to be outdone, stands and claps and sings along, her voice joining Azalie's in the song.
The entire crowd is now singing along, the tavern’s walls echoing with the voices of Bryn Shander’s hardiest. Mutt’s successful persuasion turns the performance into much more of an event than a standard Ninthday live music night. Scramsax can be seen nodding as he watches his Tavern singing and dancing, and of course, ordering lots and lots of drinks.
Finishing the song, Mutt drains his tankard. He’s feeling good; energized by being able to perform on stage.
“Here’s one you may not know yet, but is well known down south.” Mutt grins at the audience. “This is ‘A wizard’s staff has a knob at the end’”.
Mutt casts Minor Illusion to provide horn section accompaniment as he strums his lute.
Mutt finishes the song with a laugh and a half bow.
“Thank you all for coming tonight and being a part of the journey. If you liked what you heard, a little coin would be appreciated so I can pay off my bar tab to good old Scramsax over there.” Mutt chuckles and nods towards Scramsax. “Thanks again and I hope to share a drink with you all!”
And with a humorous nod towards Scramsax, he mentions his accumulating bar tab, eliciting chuckles from the crowd. The room buzzes with the warmth of shared enjoyment, and many patrons reach for their coins to show their appreciation.
>>> Mutt Reputation with Bryn Shander increases +5 <<<
Mutt, feeling a mix of relief and exhilaration, steps down from the stage, his face lit up with a broad smile.
In the midst of the cheering, Alia, moved by the performance, rushes up to Mutt. Before he can react, she plants a quick kiss on his cheek and wraps him in a warm hug. The spontaneous display of affection draws a chorus of "awws" from some in the crowd, but it also catches the attention of a noticeably intoxicated man at the bar.
"Hey! Get your hands off my girlfriend!" the man slurs loudly, his voice cutting through the applause and turning heads.
His face is flushed from drink, and his stance is unsteady as he points accusingly at Mutt.
Alia, clearly annoyed and embarrassed by the interruption, quickly retorts without missing a beat.
"Oh my god, Rodney, we broke up two years ago! I am not yours anymore!" Her sharp response draws laughter from the crowd, further humiliating the drunken ex.
The Attack at the East Gate
Rodney, fueled by alcohol and bruised pride, begins to stagger toward Mutt with a menacing glare. The tension escalates rapidly, and it seems a confrontation is inevitable. However, just as the situation is about to boil over, a loud crash from outside momentarily silences the room. This is followed by the urgent ringing of the town bell and shouts that send a chill through everyone present.
"To the wall! Giant attack at the eastern gate! To the wall!" echoes from outside, the voices filled with urgency and fear.
The mood inside the tavern shifts instantly from celebratory to anxious. Whispers of fear and panic ripple through the crowd as the people start to realize what is happening. Several men from the crowd, recognizing the immediate danger to their town, jump up from their seats and rush out the door to aid in the defense, their chairs clattering to the floor in their haste.
Scramsax, trying to keep people calm climbs onto the bar for better visibility and authority, he addresses the crowd with a commanding presence.
"Listen up, everyone!" Scramsax calls out, his voice cutting through the noise. "Stay inside—it’s safer here in the inn! Let the guards handle the situation outside. We are well-fortified and have plenty of supplies."
As the chaos unfolds outside, Dannika begins to help to reassure the patrons. With her calm demeanor, she circulates through the crowd, offering words of wisdom and comfort,
"We are safest here inside. The guards are well-prepared for such threats. Let’s remain calm and collected."
Meanwhile, Alia, after her impulsive Kiss and hug with Mutt, shows a little bit of fear in her eyes. She turns to Mutt with a worried but supportive expression,
"Stay safe, Mutt. I am going to try and help keep people calm."
She then begins checking windows and doors to ensure they are secure, guiding other patrons to do the same, and helping to organize a makeshift area with water and supplies
As the clamor from outside grows, Uptharr stands decisively, his expression firm. He turns to his companions, and announces urgently,
“I must help defend the gate,” Uptharr announces firmly. “This is what I trained for, to protect and serve when needed most.” He pauses briefly, making eye contact with each of his friends. “No time to don armor, I’ll retrieve my mace and flail from my room, and I must go help the guards. "
With that, Uptharr quickly heads toward his room.

Giants and Orcs, Oh My
As the festive atmosphere of Mutt's performance at the Northlook Inn is shattered by the sounds of chaos erupting outside, the party members spring into action, each responding to the urgent call to defend Bryn Shander against a sudden giant attack.
Mutt’s gaze breaks from the Alia’s ex boyfriend as the crash can be heard from outside. He’s glad for the distraction for the moment as he really didn’t want to end up in a fight with Alia’s ex. It wouldn’t be his first tavern brawl, but he tries to avoid them as a rule.
Azalie hears the call for help. She looks at Mutt and Alia, "There's no time for that." her facial expression changing in a blink of an eye.
She runs past them and she dashes upstairs.
Mutt looks around at the folks in the common room as word of giant attack reaches the Northlook. He’s not fully comprehending what’s happening but he saw Uptharr leave first and then watches Azalie dash up the stairs, followed by Dorf and Fizz.
Azalie's dress is heavier than her armor. She trips on the carpet as she enters her room. She is able to steady herself.
"So happy my bud wore off."
fumbling briefly in her haste but quickly gathering her longbow, quiver, and essential cold-weather gear.
I don't have time to change.' she thinks to herself, but Azalie hates the cold
Despite wearing her heavier dress, she doesn’t bother to change, instead grabbing Dorf’s pack and his Yeti suit along with her coat.
Dorf is right behind Azalie up the stairs for his weapons as soon as the commotion starts. He meets Azalie as she is grabbing his gear, and his weapons from the room and he quickly changes into his Yeti Suit as Azalie is putting on her coat, and they both exit the room together.
Fizz is a little slow on the uptake of the emergency, being comfortable and entertained by the wonderful performance of Mutt, and the joy of his friends at the table. Uptharr's rise to his feet, gets his attention though, and he quickly begins to assess the situation.
"Well, I like a good Giant tussle much as the next gnome I suppose! Hmm..come to think of it, I don't know any gnomes that HAVE tussle'd with Giants! I suppose it would take at least 2 per leg I would think."
Fizz begins to count out on his fingers how many gnomes it would take to Tussle a Giant. Looking up from his counting, he sees Azalie streaking up the stairs to her room,
"Well! Can't go wandering out in the dark without my Muklucks!"
Fizzbum scoots quickly upstairs right behind Dorf and Azalie, and grabs his Yeti cloak, potion pouch and Muklucks as Dorf and Azalie are scrambling for their gear.
Mutt, still in the taproom, sees Uptharr rush out the door alone with his flail, and then a minute later Azalie with her bow, followed by Dorf and Fizz. Seeing some folks start to panic, Mutt shouts after Azalie, Dorf and Fizz as they heads out the door.
“Azalie! Be careful! We’re right behind you.”
Mutt looks to Scramsax and places 8 silver to pay his tab on the bar. Draining his hip flask, he places the empty container on the bar next to the coins and addresses Scramsax.
"GAH! Gods, that burns! If I make it back alive, please have that refilled for me, eh?”
Turning to Dannika and Alia, who are busy trying to help keep things ordered, Mutt tries to put on a reassuring smile.
“Don’t worry. I’m sure the guard will have this well in hand. I’m just going to head and get a firsthand look at what happens so I can tell the tale afterwards.”
Dannika, maintaining a steady presence despite the chaos, nods at Mutt's statement with a mix of concern and confidence in her eyes.
"Be careful, Mutt," she says, trying to not show her worry, "Your stories are no good to us if you aren't here to tell them. Make sure you come back."
Alia, clearly distressed by the sudden turn of events, manages a small, brave smile as she clutches her hands together.
"Just... make sure you stay safe, okay?" Her voice shakes slightly, "And I’ll be waiting to hear all about it, so you better return!"
Her eyes linger on him for a moment longer, before she quickly rushes up to hug him again.
The Orc Raid:
You rush through the streets of Bryn Shander, weaving through a scattering of guards and panicked citizens heading in various directions. As you approach the eastern gate, the sight that greets you is grim: the gate has been breached. The darkness of the night is pierced by fires and the silhouettes of raiding orcs, who are dragging away people, livestock, and valuables. Outside the gate, two hill giants loom large, assisting in the raid, while a third has entered the city, causing destruction with every step.
The scene is chaotic and dark, filled with the shouts of guards rallying to defend the town and the cries of the townspeople. Approximately 20 militiamen guards, clad in basic armor and wielding swords, are gathered at the east gate desperately trying to repel the Orc raiders and the Hill giant. Among them, are several dead Guards, Townsfolk, and orcs. Amidst this chaos, Uptharr is separated from everyone, and Azalie, Dorf and Fizz are together, but have not spotted him yet, Mutt arrives last at the scene, and is also separated from the rest of the Howlbears.

The screams and the fire shake him to the core as he remembers the fire that drove his family from their forest home. He feels so tiny in the face of such violence, and he briefly leans against Az's leg for comfort, but then he slumps into empty space as she exchanges her stillness for blur of speed and fluid death aimed at the nearest Orc. Lost in purpose and shaking he searches for an answer, a path... even a hope of peace...
Peace, he thinks...Home... Stillness.. his Swamp. Fizz knows where HIS peace comes from, and with that small seed of an idea, Fizz kneels to the frozen ground, touching his hands on the earth itself.

Despite his efforts, the orc`s grip is too strong and after a struggle, the woman continues to be dragged away, her cries echoing through the chaos of battle. Uptharr is knocked prone during the exchange, and the Orc escapes into the chaos with the screaming civilian.
Azalie can feel the warm blood dripping down her leg. She's not sure if it's Orc blood or hers. It doesn't matter to her. There are people suffering, hurting, crushing. She shakes off the trap of fear.
She has to stop that giant. His size is menacing, almost a taunt, a challenge. She spots a way up to the small balcony above her. She jumps from a cart to the support, directly on top of the roof.
"HERE ME! TAKE UP ARMS, JOIN THE HOWLBEARS AS WE RID THIS CITY OF DANGER. TAKE UP ARMS!"
Azalie screams with all her might, pushing every word out while gritting her teeth. The pain from the wound is settling in. cough cough, she takes a few hard breaths and then casts Hunter's Mark on the Giant.
Pulling back her bow, she steadies herself and draws in a shallow breath through her nose. She holds her breath. As she she's her Arrow of Gentle Echos, fly through the air, she closes her eyes and prays for the arrow to hit.
"Go to the ground you beast." Azalie says to herself. "GO TO THE GROUND!" she yells out.
Her arrow whistles past the giant, embedding itself harmlessly into the snow. She grits her teeth in frustration, quickly nocking another arrow.
Fizz concentrates briefly, muttering a quiet incantation to end the entanglement. As he does, the vines abruptly loosen and retreat into the ground, freeing both the city guard and the orc simultaneously.
Fizz's Poison Spray engulfs the orc, causing it to choke and gasp as the toxic fumes overtake it, quickly bringing it to the ground lifeless.
As Fizzbum extends his hands towards Azalie, a warm, golden light flows from his palms as he casts healing word. The light wraps around her, seeping into her wounds, which visibly begin to close. Azalie's expression softens as a soothing energy rejuvenates her, restoring 7 hit points.
Mutt takes a step back and looks up with a growing fear at the towering figure of the giant. Seeing the giant raise his arm for another strike, Mutt gestures and extends a fist towards the club. Hoping that his Shatter spell will destroy the giant’s club, he targets the spell so that it’s focused on the club and giant and lets it fly.
With a resounding crack, Mutt channels the power of the Shatter spell towards the giant's club, unleashing a thunderous wave of force. The club splinters and shatters into pieces under the spell's intense vibrations, while the giant staggers back, clutching its ears in agony as it suffers the percussion damage from the reverberating sound, taking 7 points of damage. Refusing to allow the growing fear to take over, Mutt continues his inspiring chant. He raises his voice even louder over the din of battle so the guards can hear his song, using his Bardic Inspiration to boost the Morale of the town.
Orc Actions:
3 orcs seize the opportunity to snatch more citizens from the streets, each grasping a frightened individual. The air is pierced by the screams of women as the orcs viciously pull and yank at them, dragging them away. The victims struggle desperately but are no match for the raiders.
In a brutal onslaught, 6 orcs attack milita guards aggressivly. Wielding their axes and clubs, they hack and slash through the defenders, cleaving through armor, crushing bone, and severing limbs. 5 of the guards are killed by the mauraders.
As the battle rages, 8 orcs split off to wreak havoc on the town's property, channeling their destructive urges into theft and vandalism. They smash through shop windows, tear down doors, and grab whatever valuables they can carry, leaving a trail of broken and looted premises behind them. Their destructive rampage does 421 GP of damage to the town.
7 of the orcs are drawn to Dorf, his taunts ringing out to draw their attention. They swarm him with a flurry of blows, but only 1 manages to breach his defenses, the impact of the strike dampened by the ferocity of his raging spirit, and he takes 5 damage (down from 9). Despite the onslaught, Dorf's mocking laughter and goading shouts continue, his presence dominating the battlefield as he deliberately distracts the orcs from attacking his allies.
Militia Actions:
Before the guards advance, the battlefield is rocked by a loud, resounding crack as Mutt's spell targets the giant's club, shattering it into splinters. Emboldened by this turn of events, 5 guards seize the moment and swarm towards the now weaponless giant, their weapons drawn and eyes alight with determination. They launch a coordinated assault, though their inexperience shows as 4 of their attacks fail to find their mark amidst the giant's flailing attempts to defend himself with his bare hands. However, 1 guard manages to hit, driving his blade into the giant for a significant wound, dealing 7 damage as the giant bellows in pain and rage.
Giant Actions:
Enraged and weaponless, the giant channels his fury into a devastating punch, connecting squarely with one of the guards. The force of the blow sends the guard hurtling through the air like a ragdoll before he crashes with a sickening thud into the side of a nearby building. The impact is fatal, killing the guard.
Reinforcements:
As the battle rages, reinforcements continue to arrive by city militia. 8 new guards, charge onto the scene with determined expressions. Their timely arrival bolsters the morale of those already fighting.

Mutt’s brief elation at seeing the destruction of the giant’s club quickly deflates as he sees two citizens being dragged away nearby. Summoning the familiar arcane energy, he casts Vicious Mockery at two of the orcs carrying civilians away.
“Put them down! I don’t think you’re their type. Actually, I don’t think you’re anyone’s type.”
Mutt steps forward, his voice carrying a cutting edge as he unleashes a barrage of mocking words imbued with magical spite. One orc, struck deeply by the scathing remarks, clutches its head in agony before collapsing lifelessly to the ground releasing its captive, overwhelmed by the psychic assault. The second orc, enraged and disoriented by the spell, reacts brutally. In a fit of confusion and anger, it savagely beats its hostage to death before any help can arrive.
As the battle rages on, Mutt raises his voice in a powerful song, weaving melodies of courage and resilience through the air. His bardic inspiration uplifts the spirits of the surrounding troops, boosting their morale
Amidst the clash of battle, Dorf rallies his allies with a resounding clang of his axe against his shield, bellowing,
"To me men, have courage, protect my flank and I will lead you to victory!" With a smirk aimed at the orc that had wounded him, "Don't worry, I haven't forgot about you!"
he swings his axe in a lethal arc, decapitating the orc in one clean stroke and continuing through to the next. The blade embeds deep into the gut of a second orc, gruesomely spilling its entrails onto the battlefield, as Dorf stands roars a frightening battle cry that gets the attention of several nearby orcs, the giant and guards.
Fuelled by his raging momentum, Dorf swiftly turns to another orc, his axe slicing through the air. He lands a deadly blow that cuts through the orc's armor, and sends it tumbling back to the ground, dead.
Azalie stands tall on the roof, it's slippery but she is sure footed.
"Thank you Fizz. I needed that pick me up." She shuffles her feet into more of a steady stance. She knows she must stop that giant.
Azalie watches as the giant swings it's massive arms into the guards. She can detect the sound of the body breaking inside it's armor. The bones breaking, the sound of drops hitting the ground from the battered man. Her thoughts immediately wonder if he had a family.
All this thinking and her body is on muscle memory. As she finds herself at the ready, another arrow of chaos, pulled tightly against her cheek.
"I want you to", she takes a huge breath, "GO TO THE GROUND!"
Azalie nocks an arrow imbued with the enchantment of gentle echoes, releasing it toward the hulking giant brute. As the arrow flies, it leaves a trail of shimmering light before striking the giant squarely. The impact doesn't wound from the arrow itself; instead, it triggers Azalie's Hunter's Mark, causing green flames to flare up around the giant, searing its flesh with arcane energy, dealing 5 points of damage!
The force of Azalie's enchanted arrow hits the giant with an overwhelming power, causing the behemoth to lose its footing. With a resounding crash, the giant's massive form slams into the ground, dust billowing around him as he is knocked prone, momentarily stunned by the impact.
As the giant crashes to the ground, a wave of cheers erupts from the guards, boosting their morale at the sight of such a formidable foe brought low.
Azalie quickly looses a second arrow at the prone giant. However, in her haste, the shot goes wide, skimming past the giant's massive form and burying itself harmlessly in the snow.
Azalie raises her voice, shouting "Take up arms!" in an attempt to rally the guards around her. Despite her fervor, her call falls flat, lost amidst the chaos of battle
Fizz's eyes scroll across the crowded battlefield seeing his friends locked ferociously in close combat. Waiting anxiously to see if any of them get hurt, his eyes alight on the pack of orcs destroying the homes and making off with the treasure, Fizz makes a quick decision and calls upon the power of the storm to destroy as many orcs as he can.
Fizzbum casts Thunderwave, targeting orcs caught in the act of pillaging a building. As he casts the spell, a thunderous blast erupts, violently throwing three orcs backward violently, and shattering the building’s windows which in turn cut the orcs to ribbons. The sudden, loud roar of the spell resonates across the battlefield, causing a momentary confusion among both the townsfolk and guards as they try to orient themselves amidst the echoing shockwave. The blast of Fizzbum's Thunderwave sends a shock through the orc raiding party, as they witness their comrades violently hurled to their deaths by powerful magic.
"Well.... it was coming down anyway I suppose!"
Uptharr:
After witnessing the giant's thunderous downfall, Uptharr scans the chaos for his companions. His gaze locks onto Azalie, perched on the roof, and then shifts to Fizzbum, after hearing the massive thunderwave blast. With a nod of determination, he makes his way through the street, regrouping with his allies to enhance their tactical efficiency and stand united against the orc horde.

Orc Actions:
5 orcs, enraged by Dorf's taunting, surround Dorf, 4 of the orcs furiously swing at him, their axes and rusty blades Glanging against his armor and narrowly missing his face with each pass. The sound of metal scraping metal fills the air as Dorf skillfully parries and dodges each attempt, his movements almost a blur against the onslaught. Suddenly, 1 orc wielding a heavy club breaks through, landing a bruising blow that would stagger a lesser warrior, but despite the painful impact, Dorf shrugs off much of the blow, due to his rage, and takes 5 points of damage.
An angry orc lunges at Mutt with a rusty spear, snaling viciously. However, he sidesteps the clumsy thrust, the spear glancing off Mutt's studded leather armor with a 'ping'.
As Uptharr reaches the relative safety of the Howlbears, Mutt and Fizzbum, he glances back just in time to see four orcs barreling towards him. He successfully deflects the first orc with his mace, and as the second orc arcs his axe down over him, he smashes the weapon to the side with his flail, but his actions are only partially successful. Two of the orcs capitalize on his brief vulnerability, landing heavy, punishing blows. The first smashes Uptharr in the chest, with a bone-shattering 'CRACK' as Uptharr's ribs crack and give way to an orc's heavy mace. As Uptharr is reeling the last orc lunches his spear into Uptharr's side, puncturing him inches deep. Uptharr takes 18 points of damage!
5 orcs drag citizens screaming through the gates. Their cries for help echo through the chaos, as they are forcibly pulled into the tundra.
Guard Actions:
As the giant struggles on the ground, trying to stand after being knocked prone by Azalie's arrow, 5 guards seizing their advantage, encircling large target. 4 of the guards land hits, and one guard misses. The first guard lunges forward, driving his sword deep into the giant's thigh. The giant roars in pain as dark blood gushes out. The second guard, slashes across the giant's outstretched arm, cutting a wide gash. The third and fourth guard deliver vicious stabs into the giant’s belly and side, their blades sinking into his thick skin with a creak, dealing 28 points of damage.
Amidst a frenzy of clashing steel and grunts, Dorf stands at the center of a whirlwind of an orc frenzy as 5 orcs surround the small halfling as he parries and dodges a barrage of their attacks. Dorf rallies the nearby guards with his call to arms, and 5 guards charge into the fray, their formation tight around him as they get into flanking positions. Their swords slice through the air, rending finding flesh and bone with sickening tears and crunches. Blood spatters and orcish cries fill the air as limbs are severed killing all 5 of them, leaving behind a grim pile of fallen bodies and the iron scent of blood.
As the battle rages fiercely around them, 7 guards find themselves paralyzed by the chaos, particularly by the sight of the giant crashing thunderously to the ground and the resounding boom of a Thunderwave spell echoing across the battlefield. They scramble back and forth, eyes darting around in panic, seeking a way to contribute themselves meaningfully during all the violence and chaos.
Giants action:
With a roar of fury, the giant heaves itself up from the ground after being knocked prone by Azalie's arrow, and reaches out at two of the guards that have been attacking him. The first guard is caught by the head; the giant's massive hand clamps down and with a sickening crunch, crushes his head with a 'pop', killing him instantly. For the second guard, the giant's wrath is even more gruesome; it seizes both arms and, with a terrifying display of strength, tears them from the guard's body, the screams abruptly silenced as the guard falls lifeless to the ground.
Reinforcements:
Just as the town guards begin to rally, the ground suddenly begins to rumble ominously. Bursting through the breached gates, five new orcs accompanied by another towering giant charge into the fray, as the giant roars powerfully.
As the menacing figure of the new giant looms within the city, the town bell rings loudly again, rallying the defenders. At the same time, Sheriff Markham Southwell makes a commanding entrance, mounted boldly on his steed, sword and shield in hand. Accompanied by a company of 10 Bryn Shander guards clad in chain mail and carrying Maces. he charges into the thick of battle, his voice booming a call to arms,
"Stand strong, men! This day, Drive them out, no quarter! To me, defenders! Let's drive this monstrous scourge from our gates!"

Orc Raid Round 4 Combat Results
Dorf cheers on the guards that finished off the orcs around him,
”Well done, what say we finish off this giant?” Dorf then charges at the wounded giant looking to bring it to its end!
With a fierce battle cry that cuts through the clamor of combat, Dorf, fueled by rage, charges the wounded giant, the guards following him close behind. Dorf lunges forward, his axe and shield in hand, and delivers a powerful overhead swing that crashes into the giant’s leg. The sharp blade cuts deeply into the flesh, dealing 6 points of damage, as the giant roars in pain, blood spraying, staining the snow crimson red. Recovering swiftly from his first strike, Dorf pivots with the momentum he gained from his charge, swinging his axe in a wide arc aimed low. The blade slices across the giant's thigh, cutting through the thick muscle and leaving a deep, ragged gash that sends another spray of blood onto the snow-dusted ground dealing 7 points of damage.
Fizz whoops in joy as the Thunderwave radiates out from him, blasting the orcs away from the house. Unfortunately his joy is short lived as across the field he sees the Giant rise to his feet and begin to wreak havoc on the poor guards once again.
"Oh dear, Oh dear! This will not do at all. Ummm, ummm," Fizz looks around for a chance to help and sees Dorf in the heat of battle, charging the giant!
Fizz casts Healing word at Dorf, as a soft, golden light emanates from his outstretched hand, soaring across the space between them before gently enveloping Dorf. The warm glow seeps into Dorf’s wounds, knitting torn flesh and soothing pain restoring 7 hit points.
As Uptharr clutches his side, visibly pained and struggling, Fizz quickly turns his attention towards his fellow warrior as the orcs snarl around him,
"Hang in there, Big fella!" he shouts, casting Healing Word once more. A ripple of soothing energy flows from Fizz, crossing the battlefield to wash over Uptharr, easing his pain and mending his injuries, restoring 9 hit points.
Seeing the Sheriff arrive with re-enforcements and the subsequent arrival of another Giant at the gate, Fizz feels VERY out of his element, and after his friendly heals, finds the nearest "non flaming" barrel to hide behind.
Overwhelmed by the escalating chaos and the arrival of another towering giant at the gate, Fizz quickly assesses his situation. Quickly glancing around for cover, he spots a sturdy, unscathed barrel nearby. He darts behind it, successfully tucking himself out of sight.
Azalie:
The battlefield is littered with pieces of what Azalie thinks is flesh. The smell of iron fills the air. The amount of blood has grown immensely. Azalie looks down on the once happy streets. Families lives forever changed.
She hears the footsteps of an approaching enemy. "Another Giant, Gods be!" she doesn't really know what she's saying. The words won't come out, not over the tears and attempts to hold them back.
Azalie turns to the ready and prepares to fire at the wounded Giant.
"There can't be much more left in him." She steadies herself and prepares to fire. She's confident it will hit.
Azalie draws her bow to full tension and releases a standard arrow. The arrow whistles through the air, striking the giant squarely in the cheek, and into it's mouth; causing the behemoth to stagger back, clutching it's face as it roars in anger, dealing 6 points of damage. Green flames erupt from around the arrow, as the Hunter's Mark enchantment sears him for 2 additional points of arcane damage.
She sets her sights on the other giant. "The bigger they are..." she releases an arrow of gentle echoes. "If this hits, the giant will be weak and disadvantaged." She focuses on the tip of the arrow. It's glow starts to hypnotize her.
She loses her train of thought. She knows this arrow may not make it. She lets it fly with a sharp snap of her bowstring, but the arrow sails just wide, hissing past the giant's ear and disappearing into the darkness behind it, leaving a faint, shimmering trail as the only clue of her attack.
Azalie screams to from the rooftop Fizz and Mutt, "Can you take the giant out? We can't fight them both."
Mutt:
Flashback Sequence:
As the clash of steel and the roars of battle filled the air around Bryn Shander, Mutt's mind raced back to a quieter time just nights ago. The party was huddled in the cabin, the flickering flames in the fireplace casting long shadows across the room as they enjoyed the relative safety and warmth of the poor family that had passed away months or years before. Their conversation turned to the tales of past encounters and the diverse threats of Icewind Dale. Recalling the strategic formations of the frost giant they had recently bested, Fizzbum pondered aloud about other formidable foes that may be in the area, and the topic of orcs came up. Azalie, peering into the dancing flames, had posed the question to the
group,
"What do we really know about orcs out here in the dale? I have heard the orcs up here are especially savage, driven by desperation for resources."
Mutt had been playing his lute softly, and then sets it down, the firelight reflecting off the cracked windows of the house, as he gathered his thoughts.
History Check: 21
Mutt leaned in, the firelight playing off his lite as he caught the group’s attention. "Don't think of orcs as just wild marauders; they’ve got their own way of doing things. They plan their raids with a sharp eye—to grab loot, show who's boss, and create fear." he explained with a knowing nod.
He rolled a small stick between his fingers, his tone casual but confident, "At the top, it's the strongest—a chieftain or war chief. They're not just strong, they’re the most clever of the orcs, about one in a hundred orcs has the potential intelligence to become a leader, organizing the clan into groups like archers and foot soldiers. Makes them a real tough bunch to tangle with."
As the fire crackled, Mutt’s tales seemed to draw the night closer around them. Diving deeper, he chuckled,
"And let me tell you, orcs are a superstitious lot. Odd symbols, ancient totems, spooky old tales that make them think twice. Play your cards right with that knowledge, and you’ve got yourself an edge."
Fizzbum, chimed in, "Well, what are their superstitions, then?"
Mutt chuckled softly, "Take shadows and echoes, for example. They often mistake them for spirits of their ancestors, warning them off certain paths or decisions. If you're clever, a few well-timed noises or strategic shadow play could send a patrol scurrying off scared."
He winked and continued, "Then there's the old bone charms. Hang a few from your armor, and orcs think twice before striking—believing they might invite the wrath of spirits. It's all about playing on their fears. And, oh, they dread the cursed black cat—seeing one before a raid can make an orc think they’re doomed to fail. Imagine just strolling a black cat across their path; they might just turn tail!"
Leaning closer to the warmth of the campfire, Mutt flashed a wry smile and shared, "You know, around here, orcs team up with giants quite a bit. It's all about scratching each other's backs, really. Giants pack a punch, perfect for smashing through the tough walls of places. And the orcs? They make sure the giants get a cut of the action, which around these icy parts, means a share of whatever they can grab. It’s just smart business—out here, you stick with the strong to make it through the day."
As the memory of that night faded, Mutt's focus snapped back to the present, to the chaos of battle unfolding before him in Bryn Shander.
Mutt steps to the side as an orc savagely slashes through the space he was just standing in. Everything is a blur; a kaleidoscope of screams, flashes of violence, sprays of blood and splintering wood. He can hear his comrade’s voices abut can’t quite make out what they’re saying. He feels a panic start to rise; it’s as if the surrounding chaos is going to swallow him with no hope of escape.
He strains and forces himself to focus on just one small part of the melee. Spotting Uptharr coming around the bend and taking two savage cuts, Mutt prepares the binding magicks in his mind and quickly releases it, casting Healing Word on the Paladin.
A gentle, luminous energy flows from him, swirling through the chaotic air to settle on Uptharr, closing his wounds and infusing him with renewed vigor as he feels the pain recede, as it restores 7 hit points.
His focus restored, he picks up Azalie’s voice over the din of battle. Mutt looks up to her standing on a nearby roof and sees her gesturing towards the wounded giant. Nodding his understanding at the elf, he raises his crossbow and releases two bolts at the giant.
“Come on Bryn Shander! The bigger they are, the harder they fall!”
The first bolt flies true, embedding itself deeply into the giant's already battered torso, causing it to bellow in pain and stagger under the force of the impact, dealing 5 points of damage.
Mutt quickly reloads his crossbow, aiming for a follow-up shot as the giant reels from the previous hit. However, in his haste, the bolt veers off course, whistling past the giant's shoulder and clattering harmlessly against the city wall.
Uptharr:
Revitalized by the healing spells, Uptharr's eyes blaze with renewed fury as he faces the orcs encircling him and Mutt. With a bellowing challenge that echoes across the battlefield,
"Come and face your doom, the light of justice will judge you this day!"
he swings his heavy mace with overwhelming force. crashing down into the skull of one of the orcs, splintering bone with a sickening crunch as brain and blood spray outward. The orc's body crumples to the ground in a heap, killing him instantly.
Fuelled by adrenaline and making a second attack, Uptharr whirls his flail in a wide, menacing arc aimed at a second orc. But with quick reflexes, the orc raises its spear just in time, skillfully deflecting the crushing blow to the side, causing Uptharr's flail to swing harmlessly through the air with a fierce whoosh.
The Orc Actons:
With a brutal swing of his rusty axe, one orc catches a guard fighting with Dorf in the chest, the blade slicing deeply, cutting through armor and flesh. The guard collapses in a spray of blood. A second orc lunges forward, aiming at another guards rallied near Dorf, the guard reacts swiftly, raising his sword just as the orc's blade descends, blocking the attack with a loud clang of metal on metal, successfully blocking the attack.
While Dorf is intensely focused on his fierce battle with the giant, two orcs seize the opportunity to strike. They converge on him from behind, each wielding a spiked club that crashes down onto Dorf's shoulders and back, dealing 9 damage each. Despite the painful impact of the blows, Dorf's rage fuels his resilience, allowing him to withstand half the damage and takes 5 damage per blow instead.
In a clumsy attempt to scale the roof and confront Azalie, one orc tries to scale the building, grasping for any hold. However, lacking the nimbleness of the elf, the orc's grip slips, sending him tumbling back down into a deep, soft pile of snow below.
With a fierce grunt, yet another orc hurls a spear at Azalie, who stands poised on the roof. The spear cuts through the cold air, whizzing just inches from her head before clattering against the rooftop tiles behind her, a near miss that sends a shiver down her spine.
One orc slams its club across Mutt's chest, knocking the wind out of him, dealing 9 points of damage, while the second orc follows swiftly, striking a harsh blow to his arm, dealing another 9 points of damage. The force of the attacks sends Mutt staggering backward, knocking the crossbow out of his hands and into the snow.
As Uptharr stands his ground after killing one orc moments earlier, two orcs converge on him, one wielding a rusty spear and the other a heavy club. The orc with the spear thrusts it forward, piercing Uptharr's side and drawing a grunt of pain as the rusty blade scrapes against bone, dealing 9 points of damage. Meanwhile, the second orc swings its club wildly, but Uptharr manages a swift sidestep, evading the blow that whistles past him, narrowly missing his head.
The party then hears the final screams of yet another citizen being dragged out of the cities damaged gate.
The Militia Actions;
Encircling the staggering giant, 9 guards, alongside Dorf, close in around the brute, and flank it. The first guard lunges forward, driving his sword deep into the giant's calf, causing a spurt of dark blood as the creature bellows in agony. Another guard exploits the giant's momentary stagger, burying his sword into the giant's massive forearm, severing tendons. As the giant reels from the pain, three more guards deliver a coordinated volley of strikes: one slashes a deep gash across the giant’s exposed flank, another jams a sword into its abdomen, and the final, fatal blow comes as a sword pierces the giant's throat, unleashing a torrent of blood. The giant collapses with a thunderous crash, the ground trembling under its immense weight, as cheers and yells can be heard across the battlefield.
Meanwhile a guard rushes up and flanks the orcs attacking Mutt, With a swift, lethal strike, one guard plunges his sword deep into an orc's back, the blade slicing through flesh and bone, causing the orc to collapse with a choked gurgle. Simultaneously, another guard swings his mace with deadly accuracy, crashing it against an orc's skull with a sickening crack, instantly silencing its war cries. Meanwhile, guards attack the orcs that are focused on Azalie, but both guards miss their attacks as the Orcs parry and dodge.
Retreat signal:
Suddenly, the piercing sound of a war trumpet echoes from outside the city walls, the unmistakable retreat signal from their chieftain. In a frenzied, disorganized scramble, the orc raiding party begins to retreat, abandoning their positions and fleeing toward the city gate in a chaotic rush.
The Giant's action:
As the first giant crumples to the ground, the second giant's roar of rage pierces the air, resonating with grief and fury. Witnessing their colossal ally's demise, the remaining orcs glance back in horror, their shrieks slicing through the battlefield as panic sets in.
Enraged by the sight of his fallen comrade, He lumbers towards Dorf and the guards, who are still gathered around the lifeless body of the first giant. His massive fists clenching his club as he stomps across the battlefield, each thunderous step causing the ground beneath to tremble.
Ignoring the chaos around him, The giant swings his massive club at Dorf, who narrowly dodges the first thunderous blow, feeling the air rush past him with violent force. Undeterred, the giant swings again, this time connecting with a devastating impact. The club crashes against Dorf’s side, the sound of cracking ribs echoing through the battlefield as he is hurled several feet away, landing heavily in the snow, taking 18 points of damage (halved to 9 due to rage)
Sheriff Markham Southwell
Sheriff Markham Southwell quickly assesses the escalating chaos. Seeing the orcs beginning a disorganized retreat towards the gate, he shouts,
"Form up and advance!" he leads his ten elite guards in a swift, coordinated movement. They position themselves strategically between the orcs and the gate, shields raised and weapons ready. They prepare as the rush of fleeing orcs reach them. The sheriff himself confronts the largest orc, parrying its clumsy swing before delivering a fatal thrust with his sword, piercing through the orc's armor and heart with a clean, decisive stroke.
Elite Guards actions:
As the panicked orcs charge toward the gate in a disorganized scramble, One guard steps forward with a powerful lunge, driving his sword through an orc's chest, pinning it momentarily to the ground before it collapses. Another guard swings a broadsword in a clean, horizontal arc, decapitating an orc whose eyes widen in shock just as its head tumbles to the snowy ground. A third guard strikes, slicing through the shoulder and chest of his target, splintering bone and armor as the orc crumples under the force of the blow. Nearby, a fourth guard utilizes quick footwork to maneuver behind an orc, delivering a fatal stab to the back, the blade piercing vital organs. Lastly, the fifth guard catches an orc full on with a shield bash that knocks it off balance, followed swiftly by a ruthless slash across its throat, killing it. The other 5 guards, parry and clash with the remaining orcs, but miss their attacks. The orcs, now cut off, have no choice but to fight to the death.
Reinforcements:
five new militia men rush through the streets of Bryn Shander, their faces set with determination and their weapons ready. Clad in whatever armor they could quickly don, they arrive at the scene just as the elite guards are turning the tide against the orcs
The Retreat
One giant is still rampaging inside the city close to the gate, its rage unabated despite the retreat signals sounding from outside the walls. At the city gates, two outnumbered orcs find themselves surrounded, desperately looking for an escape as the clash of steel and shouts fill the air. Outside, the eerie sound of war horns echoes across the tundra, signaling a retreat as the remaining orcs and the other giant begin a disorganized withdrawal, their numbers too diminished to continue the fight.

She readies another arrow of gentle echos and releases it through the city ways, clenching her teeth, she’s already missed 2 shots.
“A little disadvantage would do us some good.” Her arrow hits, his body sways back and forth.
Azalie fires another arrow at the Giant. “This is for my friend Dorf.” Azalie still can’t erase the image of Dorf being smashed and the sound of his breaking ribs.
Her arrow flies through the air, she’s not to sure if it will land,
Mutt holds a hand over one of the deep gashes left by the orcs and flashes a grimacing smile at the guards that killed the orcs attacking him.
“Auuggh…thanks for that. Your first round is on me after all of this is done.”
Mutt prepares the binding magicks in his mind and casts Healing Word on himself to repair some of the damage done. (Using his BA)
Feeling slightly better, he turns towards where he saw the last citizen being dragged away. Seeing an orc carrying its prisoner away in the distance, Mutt casts Minor Illusion as close to the orc as possible and creates the sound of an authoritative orc voice.
